Just hours before the 2012 NFL Free Agency frenzy kicked into full swing at 4:00pm EST on Tuesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they will be releasing wide receiver and special teams standout Kassim Osgood and re-signing punter Nick Harris.
Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times Union first reported the news of Harris’ re-signing. The 33-year-old punter was with the Detroit Lions from 2003-2010 and averaged 42.7 yards per punt last season.
Harris will duke it out with reserve/future signee Spencer Lanning for the starting role in 2012. With a whopping 876 punts under his belt, experience certainly won’t be an issue for this former California Golden Bear.
Kassim Osgood was a good guy in the community and solid on special teams, however his role as a receiver was extremely limited. He was due a base salary of over $2 million next season and Jacksonville decided that was too rich for a gunner.
