Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones used a recent video segment on the team's official website to again explain that head coach Jason Garrett is responsible for all of the coaching staff changes that have taken place this offseason. The six-minute video that was posted Thursday morning was designed to wrap up the 2012 season, but it quickly turned to Jones showing support for his head coach despite a second consecutive 8-8 finish. "I saw things in our head coach that really give me a lot of promise for not only 2013 but for years to come," Jones said. "I'm excited about Jason Garrett." In regards to the several coaching staff moves, Jones wanted to make sure everyone understood that Garrett "made those changes." During the 2013 season the Cowboys will have a new defensive coordinator and a new special teams coordinator to go along with new position coaches in charge of the offensive line, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends and defensive line. It's also likely that Bill Callahan will become the team's offensive play-caller. "He did the evaluations," Jones said. "He basically said, 'Jerry here's who I want to get.'" Jones also explained that adjusting the staff was costly and not something done simply for the sake of change. "This was a change of commitment," Jones said. "We had to honor the commitments we had in coaches, all of that ultimately ended up, frankly, being pretty expensive. But at the cost of, or the sacrifice of, not being able to improve, that was trite, in my mind." Some would argue that changing from Rob Ryan's 3-4 scheme to Monte Kiffin's 4-3 base defense would be a difficult process, something that could take multiple seasons to complete. But Jones said he "relied on Jason's comfort level" when agreeing to the move. Follow Jon Machota on Twitter: @jonmachota
