The Cardinals are struggling with a well documented issue. They still don't have a starting quarterback on their roster, and picking one from their current options is proving to be a true chore for head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Kevin Kolb didn't help his own efforts last night, completing just 3 of 6 attempts for 22 yards, and oh-by-the-way, Kolb was safetied as well.

Such performances aren't helping, although John Skelton had a very respectable night in his limited play. Off field criticism is inevitable when an individual isn't playing well, and that's exactly what's beginning to happen.

Raiders defensive end Tommy Kelly criticized Kolb as being "scared." Apparently that didn't sit well with a very frustrated Kevin Kolb, who told the Cardinals' official website,

Scared? Scared of what? Taking a hit? I have never been afraid of anyone on the field and that will never change. That includes Number 93 [Kelly]. There’s a fine line between holding in the pocket and trying to escape to make a play. Tommy Kelly is too clueless to know the difference. I don’t mind people criticizing my play. Don’t ever question my toughness."

It's great to see Kolb fighting back off the field, but his opportunity to be a starting quarterback in the NFL is sliding through his fingers. John Skelton is beginning to appear as the lesser of two evils at the position, and while Kolb may not be scared in the pocket, he's certainly not effective there.
