PLAYERS: Ray Rice
TEAMS: Baltimore Ravens

Via Larry Brown Sports:

A 12-year-old boy named Bailey O’Neill died at a hospital in Delaware on Sunday, one day after his birthday. O’Neill had been in a coma after suffering several seizures which stemmed from a bullying incident at school. His family says he was jumped by two classmates during recess at Darby Township School back in January and left with a concussion and a broken nose.

On Sunday afternoon, Ray Rice (or one of his publicists) took to Facebook to speak out against bullying on behalf of the O’Neill family.

After learning last Thursday that doctors said Bailey had no longer had any brain activity, I reached out to the family and was able to spend about 45 minutes on the phone with them. I could hear their sadness, worry, frustration and grief. They would be faced with removing their son, cousin, nephew, and best friend from life support.

I don’t think I will ever be able to understand why kids bully each other and how we are all sitting here after yet another “bully death” getting ready to go through this difficult task of picking up the pieces and the even more difficult task of forgiving so we can heal.

The students who beat O’Neill have been suspended for two days, but it’s unclear if they are going to be criminally charged. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan said investigators are in the process of determining whether or not the injuries Bailey suffered during the bullying incident are what caused his seizures. Rice urged parents and teachers to treat bullying as an illness and give it more attention.

I don’t know if the kid that did this to Bailey will be punished severely enough or if he will receive the help I know he truly needs. Bullying doesn’t happen for no reason…we have to figure out what the underlying cause it and treat it like the illness it is.

I don’t know when parents, teachers, elected officials and administrators will sit up and take notice…and ACT.

But, I DO KNOW THIS: I will NOT give up my fight. Everyday I will continue to fight AGAINST bullying and fight FOR kindness.

Bailey – my little buddy, I will not let you become just another bully statistic…you are my inspiration and one more angel that will help me continue the fight for kids everywhere. You are going to help me save lives. RIP my little friend.

If you remember, Rice wrote a similar post on Facebook after a shooting that took place at a school in Baltimore last year. Picking on someone is one thing. Kids will always be kids, but the fact that an 11-year-old was beaten so badly it cost him his life leaves a sick feeling in my stomach. You can argue that the children who bullied O’Neill are too young to know any better, and that’s certainly a valid point. That being said, O’Neill was murdered. Something needs to be done to let these children and others around the world know that there is nothing okay about that.

  • The little bastards that did this need to be arrested, then tried as adults. This wasn't 'bullying'. This was murder.
  • all bullies are cowards, always picking on weaker and helpless people, up against someone their size they will run, most are not smart and lonely. no excuse!
  • these bullies need to be put in bully jail and released when they're 21, and then put on probation for 50 years.
  • bullies become gang stalkers...the silent crime that is impossible to prove. Check it out with an internet search and you tube. It's a way of life for them. All walks of life, young and old participate.
  • My son was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when he was three years old. He is not in a wheelchair. One of his main problems has been that his speech is often slurred. His walk is sometimes unsteady and his hands shake. He was bullied all through his school years by being called "retard" and "moron" and others. He was recently also diagnosed with Aspbergers. I feel very fortunate that the bullying he received was never physical. He is now 42 years old, has a college degree and works for the Federal Government. I don't know what happened to the kids who bullied him, but he has become a successful adult.
  • Suspened for 2 days, Why not let 4 older boys beat the "HELL " out of them, Turn around is fair play!!!

Joe Flacco Heads to McDonald’s to Celebrate Becoming NFL’s Richest Player (Photo)

Joe Flacco is a very, very rich man. But instead of spending that money on the priciest and most exotic foods money can buy (or whatever else filthy, filthy rich folks eat), the Baltimore Ravens quarterback is all about the Golden Arches. According to ESPN.com, Flacco made a trip to McDonald’s to fill up on some fast food just a few hours after signing his new contract. That new...

The questions have been asked, is he, was he, should he be worth this kind of money? Regardless of your feelings, Joe Flacco is the long-term answer for the Baltimore Ravens and to the organization, he was obviously worth it. Does Joe Flacco Deserve To Be The Highest Paid Player Ever?

First I want to say that I’m happy for Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens for their Super Bowl victory and for both sides coming to terms on a long-term deal. I’m a big fan for players getting paid and receiving the contract that they’ve worked hard for. But I’ve been thinking real hard lately if the Ravens made a big mistake giving Flacco that kind of money and making him...

The price for such a meal cost...

Joe Flacco’s agent is here to remind you that he was right

Joe Linta, the campaigning agent for Joe Flacco began his campaign to make Flacco the highest paid quarterback in the league a little more than a year ago. Ravens Unlikely To Use Their Franchise Tag

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun writes that even with a new contract in place for QB Joe Flacco, the Ravens are aren’t expected to use their franchise on any of their impending free agents. The deadline of course is Monday at 4PM ET. Flacco’s contract was structured so that they’ll have additional cap space to work with, but there’s still a good chance that they...

Thanks to Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, nobody can ever call agent Joe Linta ‘a jackass’

Once concerned his client was on the brink of getting franchised, agent Joe Linta is now publicly gloating that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is the highest-paid player in NFL history. After thoroughly outplaying Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Colin Kaepernick, and guiding the Ravens to a 34-31 upset victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII, the 28-year-old...

Fantasy Football 2013: Crazy for C.J. Spiller

Imagine you’re sitting at your start-up draft and you have the third pick.  Now imagine that Calvin Johnson and A.J. Green are the first two players off the board.  With the top two wide receivers off the board, you’re left to have your pick of the running backs. Now the tricky part – should that pick be Trent Richardson, Doug Martin, LeSean McCoy, Adrian Peterson or Ray...

Pete Carroll on Lynch holdout: 'It's a contract for a reason'

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll sounded much like general manager John Schneider on running back Marshawn Lynch's holdout. The team's brass seems to be more irritated than concerned over Lynch's contract demands and quite frankly have let it be known they won't be bullied into giving the rusher a new deal. "It's a contract for a reason. We made a...
