It’s often said that the most popular player on a football team is the backup quarterback. This Sunday, however, that guy might end up being the starter.
After a rash of injuries to some of the NFL’s best and brightest signal-callers, many unfamiliar or unusual faces might find themselves under center for a handful of teams around the NFL. With Michael Vick, Ben Roethlisberger and Jay Cutler among the more high-profile names who could miss time, many football fans will be introduced to the likes of Nick Foles and Colin Kaepernick, or re-introduced to Byron Leftwich and Jason Campbell.
Of course, there are plenty of teams around the league as well who would probably like to see their perfectly healthy starter benched in favor of a backup, too. With the season past its midway point and the playoff picture quickly shaping up, coaches might be bold enough to pull the trigger on a personnel move in the hopes of sparking their teams on a hot streak.
