It’s often said that the most popular player on a football team is the backup quarterback. This Sunday, however, that guy might end up being the starter. After a rash of injuries to some of the NFL’s best and brightest signal-callers, many unfamiliar or unusual faces might find themselves under center for a handful of teams around the NFL. With Michael Vick, Ben Roethlisberger and Jay Cutler among the more high-profile names who could miss time, many football fans will be introduced to the likes of Nick Foles and Colin Kaepernick, or re-introduced to Byron Leftwich and Jason Campbell. Of course, there are plenty of teams around the league as well who would probably like to see their perfectly healthy starter benched in favor of a backup, too. With the season past its midway point and the playoff picture quickly shaping up, coaches might be bold enough to pull the trigger on a personnel move in the hopes of sparking their teams on a hot streak. Steelers will rally around Leftwich despite doubters

One thing we know about the Steelers, they take the “us against the world” mentality and run with it any chance they get. Bill Cowher preached it during his tenure, and the players today still use it when they feel like nobody is giving them a chance. Right now, most of the league “experts” are leaving the Steelers for dead now that Ben Roethlisberger is out indefinitely...

Ben Roethlisberger out against Ravens; Leftwich to start

Injuries in key division games can deep-six a football team. There is no bigger set of division games than the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the Baltimore Ravens. These are two teams that hate each other and look forward to beating each other bloody twice a year, every year. Please Click Here To Read This Story

Leftwich to start at QB for Steelers on Sunday

The Pittsburgh Steelers say Byron Leftwich will start for injured quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in Sunday's key matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Roethlisberger sprained his right shoulder in the third quarter of Monday night's win over Kansas City when he was slammed to the ground by two Chiefs linebackers in the third quarter. Leftwich will be making his first start...

Byron Leftwich Officially Slated To Start For Steelers

Byron Leftwich will start at quarterback for the Steelers this week against the Ravens.Fantasy Spin:Leftwich completed seven of 14 passes for 73 yards Monday against the Chiefs. Big Ben’s “BabyGate” could anger fans but such is life

As we get closer to the impending birth of Ben Roethlisberger and wife Ashley’s first born, many in the Steeler Nation are hoping that the newest member to be born in a Terrible Towel won’t affect any of the upcoming games. Who can blame us right; the Steelers are 5-3 now and very much in contention for not only a playoff birth but also the AFC North title should things continue...

Steelers Roethlisberger right shoulder injury, Ryan Clark concussion

The Steelers win over the Chiefs on Monday Night Football came a huge price, at least potentially as both Ben Roethlisberger and Ryan Clark left the game and did not return. For Ben, he left after getting sandwiched and being thrown to the ground on his right shoulder. After going to the sidelines for a quick evaluation by Steelers trainers he jogged off to the locker room and did...

Steelers ready to stand behind Leftwich

The Pittsburgh Steelers won their fourth straight game Sunday but find themselves in a bad spot. The Baltimore Ravens come to Heinz Field for a Sunday night game with a one-game lead in the AFC North over the Steelers, who likely will play without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger has a sprained right shoulder from an early third-quarter sack. "That's...

Roethlisberger Officially Out for Sunday’s Game; Steelers Need Leftwich to Come up Big

The last time the Steelers faced the Kansas City Chiefs and went to overtime was in 2009. Ben Roethlisberger was injured during that game and the following week the Steelers had to start their back-up quarterback on Sunday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens, sound familiar? In 2009 Dennis Dixon, now on the Ravens practice squad, made his first career start for the Steelers...

Chiefs penalized for excessive celebration on touchdown that didn’t count

The 1-7 Kansas City Chiefs were penalized in their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night for excessive celebration on a touchdown that didn’t end up counting. I didn’t even know that was possible. The Steelers had a third-and-seven play from their 26 during the third quarter when backup quarterback Byron Leftwich had the ball knocked out of his hand. Linebacker...

Step up: 5 Steelers who need to amp their game

In the wake of Pittsburgh Steelers fans collective gasp after Ben Roethlisberger left with an unknown shoulder injury in the 3rd quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs, there will be a lot of pressure on both sides of the ball to compensate for No. 7’s absence going into the latter half of the season. Arguably having an MVP-quality season before the injury, Roethlisberger’s...

Heath Miller Came Awfully Close To Having To Take A Snap At Quarterback Monday Night

The Pittsburgh Steelers almost found themselves in a precarious situation at quarterback for at least one play Monday night in their 16-13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Rashard Mendenhall may finally be ready to return. He's the big name with the largest paycheck and most proven history so it stands to reason he'll get a chance to reclaim the starting gig in light of the other rushers struggling. Against the Chiefs on Monday night Jonathan Dwyer (19/56) and Isaac Redman (8/21) couldn't get anything going. The ground game will be critical...
