Inside the latest edition of “Football Nation Today,” Alex Reimer discusses the biggest stories around the NFL:1st Down: Teams across the league are partaking in a game of QB carousel, with the Cowboys signing their man, Tony Romo, to a 6-year $108 million contract.  The figures are astounding, as $55 million of the contract is guaranteed. Many say Jerry Jones and the Cowboys had no choice but to sign Romo to this lucrative long-term contract, because it was their only way to free up cap space for the upcoming season.  While that may be true, it doesn’t make it a good contract.  The Cowboys have nobody to blame but themselves for this mess.  Jones is his own worst enemy. Also, Romo will command a whopping cap hit of $21.7 million for 2014!  The Cowboys may very well be back in the same situation next year that they were in this year. Oh, and they appointed TONY ROMO their franchise quarterback for the next six years.  That’s why this is a bad deal, too. However, at least the Cowboys have somebody who they feel is worth a long-term investment.  That’s more than the Raiders, Cardinals, Browns and Bills can say, as they continue to try to find treasure in the rest of the league’s trash.  Or, at least, find someone who is “kind of or sort of okay.”  To state the obvious, you need a quarterback.  The lowly state of these franchises is why. 2nd Down: With all of the money being awarded to quarterbacks, many have wondered whether Aaron Rodgers or Matt Ryan will give their teams a hometown discount in negotiations.  Alex says Rodgers nor Ryan should give their teams any sort of discount, because in the NFL, players have no right.  They have to take the money when they can.   3rd Down: In the “Big Up or Slow Down” segment, Alex debates whether the Ravens have actually gotten better this offseason, if rookie quarterbacks should be nervous with all of the QB movement around the league and if Robert Griffin III should listen to President Obama and protect himself better.4th Down: In the “Reimer Rant,” Alex has a few things to say these so-called NFL Draft experts who are trying to find the “next Russell Wilson” or the “next this or that.”  Every draft is different, and every player is different.  No two draft classes are the same.Email Alex at areimer@bu.edu, and follow him on Twitter @AlexReimer1.
