The Edmonton Oilers are building a very solid stable of top young players, and they are making sure that their top talents are not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. After already announcing that Taylor Hall has signed a seven year contract extension worth $42 million, the Oilers have now re-signed Jordan Eberle to a six year extension worth $36 million.
Clearly, the Oilers want to make sure that they have a group of well rounded players for years to come. Considering that Eberle is 22-years-old, and Hall is still just 20 years of age, Edmonton has accomplished that goal.
Throw in the fact that the Oilers have drafted young stars such as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov the past couple of years, and this team could contend for a playoff berth sooner than later.
If only they had a goalie.
Edmonton continues the trend of giving players new deals who have one year remaining on their entry level contracts. It is also in the best interest of all of the players in...

The Edmonton Oilers signed forward Jordan Eberle to a six-year, $36 million contract extension Thursday.
The move comes a little over a week after the Oilers signed forward Taylor Hall, Eberle's roommate, to a seven-year, $42 million extension.
The 22-year-old Eberle, a 2008 first-round draft pick, still has a year to go on his entry-level contract. He had 34 goals and 42 assists...
While some of the offseason NHL signings were stunning excessive, Edmonton’s decision to lock in Jordan Eberle (six years, $36 million) and Taylor Hall (seven years, $42 million) for the long haul made all the sense in the world. These are two of the elite offensive talents in the game. At some point, an offensively starved team was going to target one of these guys. Now Edmonton...
Despite the looming NHL lockout, Edmonton Oilers fans have to be pumped up about how their organization is going about the to-do list this off-season. Most recently, the franchise inked their leading-scorer, Jordan Eberle to a six-year, $36 million extension. Eberle racked up 76 points in his sophomore season, in the National Hockey League, goals, (34) assists, (42). These numbers...
Cross another name off of the list of young players that the Oilers need to ink up long term as Lady Byng candidate sophomore Jordan Eberle has signed his extension. While Eberle’s agent may have gone into negotiations with the intentions of signing Eberle to more money than Hall based on their current production to date, Eberle has in fact signed a deal quite similar to his...
Jordan Eberle. Six year contract extension. $6mil per season.
Well, I was close.
Some argued Eberle should get less than Taylor Hall in his extension because Hall is perhaps the better all-around player. Others (like me) thought Eberle could get more money because of the huge point totals he had during his second NHL season. In the end, these two best friends got the same money...
