Every other season Marian Gaborik has a big season. And every other season he struggles with injuries.
He is heading into this campaign at full speed. He scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-4 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Wednesday night.
Gaborik has produced three 40-goal campaigns in the NHL, but folks should temper expectations for him in Columbus this season. He scored just three goals in 12 games for the Blue Jackets last season after arriving in a trade with the New York Rangers.
His new team lacks the proven firepower of his old team, so he will have to create his own opportunities. On the other hand, he will log lots of playing team and benefit from a power play built around his skills.
And he doesn't have John Tortorella screaming at him any more, so he is happy about that.
