One night after suffering its first loss of the season, the top-ranked University of Minnesota hockey team had another difficult game against Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich. This time, however, the Gophers came out ahead, 3-2, thanks to Seth Ambroz's goal 16:25 into the third period. The 600th career win for Gophers coach Don Lucia left Minnesota at 3-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the WCHA. Minnesota dominated the puck most of the night, getting 34 shots on goal to the Huskies' 18. Ambroz gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead with his first goal of the season at the 17:45 mark of the first period. Michigan Tech (2-2-0, 1-1-0) tied the score, 1-1, early in the second period before Minnesota's Eric Haula netted his third goal of the season, giving the Gophers a 2-1 lead 11:34 into the second period. Michigan Tech's Ryan Furne tied the score again late in the second period before Ambroz's deciding goal was the only score in the final period. Minnesota will return to action at 7 p.m. Friday in a home exhibition against the U.S. under-18 team. The Gophers will then host Canisius at 1 p.m. Sunday.
