One night after suffering its first loss of the season, the top-ranked University of Minnesota hockey team had another difficult game against Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich. This time, however, the Gophers came out ahead, 3-2, thanks to Seth Ambroz's goal 16:25 into the third period. The 600th career win for Gophers coach Don Lucia left Minnesota at 3-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the WCHA. Minnesota dominated the puck most of the night, getting 34 shots on goal to the Huskies' 18. Ambroz gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead with his first goal of the season at the 17:45 mark of the first period. Michigan Tech (2-2-0, 1-1-0) tied the score, 1-1, early in the second period before Minnesota's Eric Haula netted his third goal of the season, giving the Gophers a 2-1 lead 11:34 into the second period. Michigan Tech's Ryan Furne tied the score again late in the second period before Ambroz's deciding goal was the only score in the final period.
