New York Rangers
OPPONENT: EV Zug
NOTABLE NHLers: Jussi Markkanen (former Ranger), Glen Metropolit.
Brian Boyle-Brad Richards-Marian Gaborik
Brandon Dubinsky-Artem Anisimov-Ryan Callahan
Ruslan Fedotenko-Erik Christensen-Brandon Prust
Mike Rupp-Derek Stepan-Mats Zuccarello
Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi
Michael Del Zotto-Steve Eminger
Brendan Bell-Stu Bickel
STATE OF THE BLUESHIRTS: The Rangers are 4-1-1 this preseason, but have not looked overly impressive while amassing that impressive record. They were sloppy against Slovan, and have taken entirely too many penalties against teams that are supposed to be inferior opponents. They would not be 4-1-1 if they played this way against NHL opponents. With the roster essentially set, it’s time to get their act together and finish the preseason strong.
CRAZY THOUGHT: Bickel scores a goal.
OPPONENT’S BLOG: N/A
PREDICTION: Rangers 4, Zug 1.
The game is on at 2pm on MSG. If there’s a live stream, I’ll post it here.

Larry Brooks of the NYPost tweeted and TSN is reporting that the New York Rangers will put Sean Avery on waivers at noon today. There is some shock to this as Christensen did little if anything to "win" the final roster spot, but the fact that Avery is off the team should not be all that shocking. Avery had the bigger cap hit and issues with the coaching staff trusting...
MSG Network has been making some great commercials leading up to the 2011-12 season for the New York Rangers, but this one below trumps them all. If this doesn't get you pumped for Friday's game against the L.A. Kings, then I'm not sure what will.
Take a look...
H/t to reader Brad for sending this to me.
The Rangers will be closing out the...
Traveling to three different countries for three games in four days is no easy task, so unsurprisingly the New York Rangers came out sluggish for this morning's match against HC Slovan in Bratislava, Slovakia. They collected themselves well, however, and managed to come out with a 4-1 victory to improve their preseason record to 4-1-1. They will now have the opportunity to sweep...
Now that the Rangers have trimmed their roster down to 25 players, it’s time to take a look at who remains, and how they will likely line up on opening night. Teams need to be down to a twenty-three man roster by their first game, and the Rangers have a couple of cuts still to be made. The personnel are mostly in place on offense, but line combinations are still to be determined...
The Rangers announced Monday that Marc Staal will not join the team in Europe for the first two games of the season as he continues to recover from post-concussion syndrome. For those that have been reading me this season and/or just following the news on Staal, this decision comes as little surprise. For now, the Rangers are not placing Staal on injured reserve, though that could...
(Editor’s note: Is it really 20 years since this? October 4, 1991: Mark Messier, traded to NY Rangers by Edmonton with future considerations (Jeff Beukeboom for David Shaw, November 12, 1991) for Bernie Nicholls, Steven Rice and Louie DeBrusk and a big, giant bag of cash, October 4, 1991.)
The Rangers wrapped up their 2011 preseason campaign with an ugly 8-4...
The New York Rangers placed winger Sean Avery on NHL waivers at noon ET on Tuesday.
From the Rangers:

When Sean Avery came to the Rangers during the 2006–2007 season, the general feeling was that this transaction was the missing piece to a seemingly lifeless team. There was no doubt the Rangers lacked the energy and spark required to make the step to that next level. And despite his questionable history, GM Glen Sather...
via Larry Brooks tweet, BREAKING NEWS FROM STOCKHOLM: RANGERS WILL WAIVE SEAN AVERY, POST HAS LEARNED…
"I think we have better players than Sean Avery - plain and simple," Rangers coach John Tortorella said today. "I can dodge it 10 different ways without trying to run Sean over. I thought he had a good camp."
Player agent Pat Morris chatted with Gord Stellick on HNIC Radio on Sirius on Tuesday, discussing the New York Rangers' decision to place Sean Avery on waivers.
ZUG, Switzerland - Artem Anisimov had a goal and an assist, but the New York Rangers finished their preseason...
With the Rangers in Europe playing a preseason game in advance of their regular-season opener Friday against the Kings in Stockholm, Sweden, defenseman Marc Staal, still suffering from headaches, stayed behind yesterday and skated in Hartford with the Connecticut Whale, the Rangers' AHL affiliate.
Similar to when he practiced with the Rangers last week in training camp, Staal...
