PLAYERS: Arron Asham
TEAMS: New York Rangers
The New York Rangers recalled rugged veteran forward Arron Asham from Hartford of the AHL on Monday to add much needed toughness to the struggling lineup. To make room for Asham, the Rangers, who lost twice at home over the weekend, sent forward J.T. Miller back to Hartford. The 35-year-old Asham had two assists and 19 penalty minutes in 12 games with Hartford this season. He played three games with the Rangers earlier this season and recorded his 1,000th NHL penalty minute. In two seasons with the Rangers, Asham has two goals and 64 penalty minutes in 30 regular-season games. He netted two goals in 10 playoff games with New York last season. Miller, 20, has a goal and an assist in 17 games with the Rangers this season. He had no points in two games since being recalled from Hartford on Friday.

Rangers recall Arron Asham; Return J.T. Miller to Hartford

In a relatively unsurprising move, considering the discussions today about a need for some grit, the Rangers recalled winger Arron Asham from the Hartford Wolf Pack today, and returned rookie J.T. Miller back to Hartford. Asham is someone who can be a viable replacement while Derek Dorsett nurses his wrist injury, bringing some necessary grit and anti-vanilla to the lineup that this...

Free agency is still months away, but the Rangers will have some tough decisions to make

Ryan Callahan’s injury woes are concerning, but New York will still likely do everything it can to keep its captain Quick note: Dave was at the game last night, so the goal breakdown will be done for the afternoon post. The Rangers’ season is quickly spiraling out of control and it’s probably a matter of time before GM Glen Sather steps in and makes a major shakeup.  But with...

Dorsett back on the ice, Staal still out

Per Steve Zipay, Derek Dorsett (wrist) was back on the ice for this morning’s skate. Dorsett has been nursing this wrist issue for a while, and the Rangers could really use his spunk back in the lineup. Marc Staal was not on the ice, as expected. He is suffering from “issues” that may or may not be concussion related. The team is calling it a neck issue for now. Tweet

Game 32: Please show up against Nashville

Photo by John Russell/NHLI via Getty Images Following a frustrating loss against Washington, the Rangers shook things up in their lineup. In need of grit, the team recalled Arron Asham. Alain Vigneault also (finally) benched both Benoit Pouliot and Taylor Pyatt in favor of Asham, Derek Dorsett (returning from injury), and Dominic Moore (returning after being scratched). A spark is...

Jan Levine: Rangers Lose, AV Questions Talent Level, Callahan Out 4-6 Weeks

On a night where the Rangers had another listless performance, I am sure I will have lots more to say tomorrow, bit as now, two separate items stand out. First, the captain Ryan Callahan will miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained left MCL suffered in the first period of the team's 4-1 loss. It's something we have said before and given this latest injury, it's an item that...

New York Rangers: Marc Staal concussion woes return

Of the three Staal brothers who’ve played significant time in the NHL, Marc is the least acclaimed, and the only one who doesn’t have his name on the Stanley Cup. Rangers’ Marc Staal diagnosed with concussion

During a game against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, Rangers defenseman Marc Staal took a hard shot in the third period and left the game not to return. Today, New York’s fears were realized when Staal was confirmed by head coach Alain Vigneault to have suffered another concussion. Luckily for Staal, the doctors are optimistic that this concussion isn’t as severe as his...

Unlikely scorer Clune leads Predators to win over Rangers

Nick Spaling and Rich Clune scored first-period goals, and seldom-used backup Carter Hutton made 28 saves as the Nashville Predators snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the New York Rangers 4-1 on Tuesday night. Hutton (5-3-1) made his first start since Nov. 10 and his third appearance in that span as the Predators try to get by while Pekka Rinne (hip) is out. Marek Mazanec...

King’s Ransom: The Price of Doing Business Under the New CBA

By: Ryan Kiray (@RyanK_THG) Getty Images The Rangers signed star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to a 7-year contract extension on December 4, ensuring that their franchise netminder would remain in New York for as long as the Rangers wished to continue to employ him. Reaction to the contract was mixed, with some rejoicing that Lundqvist, arguably the league’s best netminder, would...

Dirty hits and their impact on the league

Suit’s post yesterday was spot on about the need for grit, not goons, on this Rangers team. Though the Rangers need grit, the goons have been out in full force this past weekend in the NHL. For as long as I can remember being a fan, the debate of banning fighting has been around, but that’s not what we’ve seen this past weekend; we’ve seen extremely dangerous and unsportsmanlike...
