England's players have seen their WAGs on the night before their key clash with Moldova – with the full blessing of the FA. Boss Roy Hodgson allowed wives girlfriends and families to visit the players at their five-star hotel – even though a crucial World Cup qualifier was only one sleep away for the national team. The FA stressed they were allowed to stay over at their Hertfordshire base and a spokesman said: “No rules have been broken.” Even though the WAGs stayed in a different part of the hotel it represents a remarkable change from Fabio Capello’s days in charge and a move back towards Sven Goran Eriksson’s more relaxed regime when WAGs were allowed near the team base during the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Stern Italian Capello banned WAGs clamped down on mobile-phone use and even got rid of tomato ketchup at meal-times. But Hodgson appears to be more relaxed ahead of the crunch Moldova game and WAGs were allowed on Thursday which is unusual the night before a game.
