Joe Kinnear plans to make Newcastle "far better than they are now" after signing a contract to return to the club as director of football.
The former Magpies manager confirmed the news on Sunday, having signed a contract reported to be for three years.
Kinnear confirmed manager Alan Pardew is "aware of the situation", though the pair have yet to discuss their new working relationship.
But Kinnear has no doubts about his suitability for the role.
"I believe I'm a very good judge of players, a good tactician and I intend to make Newcastle far better than they are now," he told Sky Sports News.
"I can see a good player and know a good player and get the right players in for us to be successful. I have no other agenda.
"I know I've got more knowledge than most people at Newcastle as a football manager and I'll bend over backwards to make sure we're successful.
