Former USF/Texas/Louisville head coach Charlie Strong was in Tuscaloosa visiting with the Alabama coaching staff Thursday. Strong was let go from USF following the season.— Aaron Suttles (@AaronSuttles) February 14, 2020
Whether this means anything as it relates to the ‘Bama football program remains to be seen. Saban has a habit of collecting high-profile coaches as assistants and consultants, and it wouldn’t be shocking whatsoever if Strong ends up working for the program in some capacity next season.
A defensive-minded coach who got his first head-coaching gig at Louisville, Strong has been involved in coaching at the collegiate level since the mid-1980s. Given Alabama’s defensive struggles last season, he could potentially provide a boost to the program as a defensive specialist, if that’s something the Crimson Tide are interested in doing.
But for now, any thought that Strong would join Saban’s staff is pure speculation.
