We’re all doing our best to get through the coronavirus pandemic, and many of us are also trying to help in the community where we can. Celebrities, with their access to both cash and a wide audience, are certainly part of that. Here are some ways that celebrities have been contributing during the COVID-19 scare.
In a weird way, Hanks played a huge role in the conversation around this disease when it was revealed that he and his wife, actress Rita Wilson, both had been diagnosed with COVID-19. He took to the internet to announce it, and he talked to people through the experience. Hanks, one of the world’s most beloved celebrities, put a face on the seriousness of the pandemic.
OK, so we’re starting with a “thanks for the effort” situation. Gadot may be Wonder Woman, but her idea for helping boost people’s spirits wasn’t as helpful as she may have hoped. Gadot wrangled a bunch of celebrities together to, um, let’s say “sing” the John Lennon song “Imagine.” It wasn’t well received by the internet, but it’s the thought that counts.
People who have jobs that rely on public events have been hit quite hard by this pandemic., and that includes the staffs at comedy clubs. Birbiglia, a veteran standup, is trying to help. He’s started a Instagram Live show called “Tip Your Waitstaff,” which features him talking to another comedian like John Mulaney or Maria Bamford. The goal is to raise money for comedy club employees who are out of work for the time being.
Gibbard, the frontman of Death Cab for Cutie, has a different relationship to this experience than many of us, given that he contracted coronavirus himself. While quarantining, Gibbard spent an entire week doing live concerts on YouTube. Though he’s no longer doing that, he’s still planning to do one show a week for as long as this continues.
John has had a foundation for years working to try and find a cure for AIDS. For now, though, he has added an emergency fund to the mix dedicated solely to helping out with the COVID-19 crisis as it relates to HIV. The medical community is scrambling right now, and John is being sure to look out for vulnerable people who could get lost in the mix.
Not only did Lady Gaga raise $35 million in seven days for the fight against Coronavirus, but she announced on Twitter that she has donated to America’s Food Fund, which is an initiative founded to feed people in need during the COVID-19 crisis.
In “The Simpsons,” Fall Out Boy is the sidekick of Radioactive Man. While shooting a Radioactive Man movie, Rainier Wolfcastle was swept away by acid while declaring that “the goggles do nothing!” Well the band Fall Out Boy made a $100,000 donation to the Chicago Community COVID-19 Response Fund, and that will certainly do something.
If Parton already wasn’t enough of a national treasure, she’s been quite generous in these trying times. The country singer has donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University. As she explained on Twitter, “My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements toward research of the coronavirus for a cure.”
Joel and his wife Alexis have a foundation of their own, and they have already made multiple donations to coronavirus-related matters. This includes a $500,000 donation to help buy healthcare workers protective equipment.
We’re combining these two because their foundations released a joint press release about matching donations. They have collaborated musically in the past, and they have now joined forces to donate $1 million each, specifically to “support undocumented workers, the children of frontline health workers and first responders as well as incarcerated, elderly and homeless populations in New York City and Los Angeles.
Mendes is a musician on the rise, even if he may not be as big of a name as Dolly Parton or Billy Joel. However, that hasn’t stopped him from using his foundation to donate $175,000 to The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He has also said that all gifts to the foundation will be going toward COVID-19 efforts for the time being.
Speaking of “The Simpsons,” Taylor once gave Homer and Buzz Aldrin some good advice on how to handle a problem they were having in outer space. Now, he and his wife Kim have donated $1 million to the Massachusetts General Hospital. “Kim and I want to be part of this fight. We have been so inspired by the courage and sacrifice of the health care heroes in the trenches who are working so hard to protect us all,” he said.
Martin is another musician looking to help out the medical professionals in need of supplies and protective equipment on the proverbial front lines. Through the non-profit organization Project Hope, Martin has started a new campaign designed to help health care workers worldwide.
When he isn’t making commercials with Peyton Manning, Paisley is a country musician. He also apparently owns a grocery store in Nashville, the country music capital of the world. His store, which is simply called “The Store,” provides free groceries to the needy. Now, it is also providing senior citizens with free delivery.
Paisley has a grocery store in Nashville, while Bentley has a bar to his name. However, right now it’s closed, naturally, and that’s bad for its employees. Bentley is looking out for them, though, as he gave all of his hourly employees $1,000. That won’t stretch terribly far, but it’s something, which is more than a lot of chain restaurants have done.
The couple who donates together stays together. Maybe. We don’t know. What we do know is that Lively and Reynolds have given $1 million to split between Feeding America and Food Banks Canada. The “Deadpool” actor is looking out for his home country.
Andres is an extremely esteemed chef, but he’s also no stranger to charitable work. He’s routinely gone into disaster areas, such as Puerto Rico after it was struck by a hurricane, to help out on the food front. Andres has been his usual giving self during all this, as he’s been turning his restaurants into community kitchens to feed the hungry.
The incredible success of “Old Town Road” has given Lil Nas X some largesse, and he decided to share it with his fans. The rapper went on Twitter to ask his followers to give him their Cashapp user names. He then proceeded to gift some of his fans with money to be used to buy food for sheltering in place. Megan Thee Stallion did something similar at the same time.
If you aren’t into K Pop, you might not be familiar with this member of BTS. However, we don’t want to forget that this is a global pandemic. Suga donated $83,000 to Hope Bridge, an organization dedicated to disaster relief in his native South Korea.
Bieber gets a lot of stick, but he deserves credit for taking coronavirus seriously before many people in this hemisphere did. On Feb. 13, long before many people, including government officials, were taking this seriously in the Americas and Europe, Bieber took to Instagram to show some love to China and also to note he had made a donation to support that country's plight.
Musicians make a lot of their money from touring, which obviously none of them can do right now. The guys in The National aren’t worried about themselves though. Instead, they have set up a fundraiser to provide money to the members of their touring crew. The National may lose some cash from canceled or postponed dates, but their crew doesn’t have the same alternative sources of revenue so the band is helping them out.
Benanti has had a lot of success on Broadway, and she likely has some fond memories of being in high school musicals growing up. Well a lot of students lost their chance, perhaps their last chance, to appear in a school play or musical. Benanti decided to take to Twitter to ask students who had their performances canceled to post a video of themselves performing on Twitter so that she could serve as their audience.
Parents with young children in the house are having to be resourceful to keep them occupied while everybody is stuck indoors. Gad decided to help out on that front. He livestreamed himself reading a children’s book to offer, in his words “10 minutes of free daycare” to parents. Given that he is a voice in “Frozen,” a lot of kids were probably happy about it.
Garner is also happy to be an audience to the kids of the world. She knows a lot of teenage kids have put their efforts into working on not just plays, but concerts, sporting events and more. The former star of “Alias” asked kids across the country, and perhaps the globe, to let her see their talents on display.
A lot of people are turning to meditation in these trying times. Lizzo is apparently one of them. After a big performance at the Houston Rodeo was canceled, Lizzo posted a 30-minute video on Instagram that she called a “meditation and mantra to promote healing during this global crisis.” Perhaps she introduced some people to meditation at a time when they really needed it.
Some celebrities aren’t into social media, so when somebody joins Instagram just to launch an initiative you know they are serious about it. Adams did just that to introduce the world to Save With Stories, which is dedicated to helping children who rely on school lunches for food. Her partner in this? None other than the aforementioned Jennifer Garner.
Grande has donated money to all sorts of different groups, including Feeding America and the World Health Organization. Beyond that, though, she was vital in getting people to take social distancing recently. Annoyed at people not taking things seriously, Grande took to Instagram to say, among other things, “It is incredibly dangerous and selfish to take this situation that lightly.”
You may roll your eyes at any of the Real Housewives and, well, we don’t blame you. They do a lot of eye-roll-worthy stuff. Not in this case, though. Frankel, of “The Real Housewives of New York” fame, has donated a million masks to hospitals.
In addition to their successful acting careers, apparently Bell and Shepard have some real estate holdings in Los Angeles. They serve as landlords for a couple of buildings, but they are not like some of the nightmare landlords you may have had. The two have informed their tenants that they have waived rents for the month of April.
Wow, we’re really having to say some positive things about celebrities we aren’t used to being terribly enthusiastic about. Say what you will about Jenner and her reality show background, but it has helped her make a ton of money. She’s paid that forward during this crisis, as Jenner has given $1 million to Los Angeles hospitals.
Jolie in the past has adopted kids from areas in the world that may lack the infrastructure to give them a healthy, happy childhood. She still has charity for children on her mind, as she has given $1 million to No Kid Hungry, an organization dedicated, naturally, to alleviating child hunger.
This time, Oprah isn’t giving out cars (or rather facilitating a car company giving away cars as a marketing stunt). She’s doing something more helpful and noble than that, as she’s donated a whopping $10 million to different coronavirus-related efforts. Oprah may be retired from her TV show, but she’s still in the giving mood it would seem.
Gomez has given a donation to Cedars Sinai, which is obviously a good thing as like most hospitals, this one needs things like masks and ventilators. However, this is also personal for Gomez. The pop star once received a kidney transplant at that very hospital.
Like Ben Gibbard, Pink tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, she made it through without anything too serious happening. The singer has donated a half-million dollars to two different organizations: the Los Angeles Emergency Crisis Fund and Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where her mother worked for 20 years, making this even more personal.
Look, Madonna has been doing some weird stuff on social media during social distancing. We can’t argue with that. However, look past the baths and the impromptu singing sessions and she has donated $1 million to the effort of trying to find a drug to help treat or prevent COVID-19.
Thousands of medical professionals are working around the clock to try and help save lives during this pandemic, and finding time to eat or sleep has been difficult for some. Well Cardi B had those people on her mind when she donated 20,000 bottles of a plant-based meal enhancement drink to healthcare workers on the front line in New York. We like it.
Laugh at Fieri if you want — and he does have an outsized personality and look that can draw skepticism — but he’s done a lot to help people as well. Recently he launched the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, which is designed to give restaurant employees currently out of work due to the crisis a $500 stipend. Every little bit can help.
It must be an extra weird time for a guy like Mandel, whose idiosyncrasies around germs and disease are well known. He’s a guy whom you don’t have to tell twice to wash his hands. He’s also started an initiative to help small business owners showcase their businesses and sell their products online during this time...because we don’t want to have to get everything from Amazon all the time.
We have a list of athletes who have done work to help during this crisis as well, which you should check out. We mention it now because Ciara has done her work alongside her husband, quarterback Russell Wilson. Together, the two have donated 1 million meals to a food bank in Seattle, where Wilson plays for the Seahawks.
Swift has some extremely dedicated fans, and that dedication paid off for some of them recently. The singer stepped out of the vortex that is Kanye West’s toxic personality to reach out to some of her fans who had shared how they had been impacted financially during this mess. Swift then proceeded to not just send them some love but also to send them $3,000 to help ease the burden.
Cranston and Paul aren’t just former “Breaking Bad” costars, but they also are business partners. The two have their own Mezcal, Dos Hombres, and the proceeds from that are going to a good cause. Right now, bars across the country are closed, and a group called the United States Bartender’s Guild has formed to try and help all the out-of-work bar employees. Cranston and Paul have announced that 30 percent of proceeds through May 1 will be sent over to the Guild.
Once upon a time, Schwarzenegger was the governor of California. Now a private citizen, the Terminator is not content to sit on the sidelines. He co-created the Frontline Responders Fund, which is dedicated to giving medical supplies to those who need it. Schwarzenegger didn’t just found the group, but he also staked it with $1 million. Oh, and he made a PSA starring two donkeys.
O’Donnell’s talk show has been off the air for many years, but for one night only she brought it back for a good cause. Rosie hosted a livestream to raise money for The Actors Fund, which is helping out Broadway actors who can’t work at the moment. Apparently people were happy to have Rosie back, as she raised $500,000.
The daytime talk show darling and her actor husband have done some good for New York, which has been the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States. Ripa and Consuelos have given $1 million, some of it going to purchasing ventilators and some of it going toward women’s shelters in New York.
The guys from Florida Georgia Line have taken a page out of Dierks Bentley’s book. They have given $1,000 to each of the 117 hourly employees at their restaurant, FGL House, who are currently out of work. “We very vividly remember what it’s like to be in the service industry,” Tyler Hubbard of the duo said at the time.
Stonestreet loves his hometown of Kansas City. You can see it in his love for the Chiefs or by all the charity events he has done in the area. Recently he donated 200,000 meals to Harvesters, a regional food bank with a footing in Kansas City.
The site Cameo, where people can pay celebrities for videos, seemed like a silly thing when it debuted. To be fair, it is, but it can be that for a good cause. Take "This is Us" star Moore, for example. She’s joined Cameo to do videos for fans, but all of her proceeds are going to No Kid Hungry.
Affleck was in the news quite a bit when the coronavirus hit because of various stories involving his personal life. People pay attention to Affleck, so when he goes on Instagram to call people to action, it is going to be seen. The erstwhile Batman has made a donation to Feeding America, and he’s asked others to do the same.
Timberlake is another celebrity looking out for his hometown. The singer and actor has given a donation to the Mid-South Food Bank in Memphis. It’s not a city a lot of affluent folks might think of first, so it’s nice that somebody like Timberlake is giving the people there some love.
Versace, of fashion fame, has been helping people around the globe with cash. First, in February she gave a little over $143,000 to the Chinese Red Cross. Then in March, she and her daughter, Allegra, announced that they were giving a bit over $222,000 to a hospital in Milan. As you likely know, Italy was hit particularly hard by the coronavirus.
Most late-night talk show hosts have returned to the air, albeit in stripped-down shows being done from their homes. That in and of itself is a benefit. Before returning to TV, though, O’Brien was doing videos online that weren’t just about entertainment. These videos were also part of a fundraising effort on YouTube, so fans who watched them would have a chance to donate.
Hey, he was on “The Simpsons” and “Frasier.” He’s been famous as one of the world’s richest men for decades. Gates is a celebrity at this point. He’s got a massive amount of money at his disposal, which is how he and his wife, Melinda, have been able to donate a whopping $100 million to various groups.
Bong’s Oscar winner, “Parasite,” has a lot to do with class equality. Given that, it’s not surprising he’s looking out for the disadvantaged. He donated $83,000, which is equal to 100 million won in South Korea, to help purchase face masks and hand sanitizer for Koreans in need.
Cyrus may no longer be generating headlines like she once did, what with the lack of nude rides on wrecking balls. However, she’s still got a career going, and she’s also dating fellow musician Cody Simpson. The two joined forces recently to purchase 120 tacos to feed healthcare workers at a medical center in Tarzana, California.
Did you know Hemsworth has an app? And that it has nothing to do with thunder or how to catch Loki? Centr is an app dedicated to helping people deal with stress and anxiety through meditation. The Australian actor offered a free six-week trial for kids. While the offer period has ended, hopefully a lot of kids got to take advantage of it.
Clearly DiCaprio doesn’t have much in common with his character from “The Wolf of Wall Street.” It’s hard to imagine Jordan Belfort in that film partnering with Apple to launch America’s Food Fund, which began with a $12 million donation. The initiative is still being hosted on GoFundMe, with DiCaprio’s backing.
Have you ever wanted to have dinner with the mother of dragons? Well if you donate to her charity, SameYou, you may be able to join her for a virtual dinner party. Even mad queens have to socially distance.
As an economy that is built on tourism and the site of large gatherings, the city of Las Vegas has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. Mars is looking out for some of the folks impacted by the lack of work, as he’s donated$1 million to MGM employees being affected by the economic fallout of the coronavirus.
Are there problems with GOOP? It’s fair to say yes, at least if you pay attention to the science. Still, GOOP has helped her make the $100,000 she donated to the Frontline Responders Fund.
You may know Farley better as “JWoww” from “Jersey Shore.” Look, right now we are talking about a woman who calls herself JWoww joining forces with a company called “Eat Clean Bro” to donate 500 meals to a medical center in New Jersey. Let’s just focus on the charitable part of that.
Britney, along with her sister Jamie Lynn and some others, are part of the #Doyourpartchallenge. It’s designed to provide food and necessities to those in need while also supporting local businesses impacted by the pandemic. One assumes Britney is also looking out for the people in Vegas dealing with a lack of work, or at least has them on her mind.
Siriano is one of the stars of “Project Runway,” so he knows a thing or two about fashion and design. Right now, he and his design team have put fashion on the back burner for something much more important. He’s working to help produce face masks for healthcare workers.
Hudgens, who rose to fame as a Disney star, didn’t mince words on Instagram when announcing her donation to Feeding America. In addition to encouraging her followers to donate, she also delivered this simple, accurate message: “Let’s help each other out rather than freak the f**k out.” Indeed.
Fallon has taken to doing his show from home as well, but he’s also using social media to announce a donation he has made. Like many others, Fallon has given to Feeding America. He also took the time to shout out Jose Andres and his efforts to help provide food to those in need.
Fans of the CW’s brand of programming will know Dobrev from “The Vampire Diaries.” Even if you’ve never seen her work, you can appreciate what she’s done to help fight the coronavirus. The Canadian actress has given $10,000 to help buy masks for folks on the front line.
Like many musicians, Urban had his upcoming run of concerts canceled. He didn’t want to leave his fans in the lurch, so on St. Patrick’s Day, Urban played a 30-minute virtual concert. Hey, it’s better than nothing, and the best he could do under these circumstances.
Kanye is normally in the news for less than great reasons it seems. Not this time. The rap legend and, shall we say, polarizing personality has given money to organizations in Los Angeles and his native Chicago, including We Women Empowered.
Making PSAs is a simple, but effective, way for celebrities to help people. If it gets them to pay attention to the facts about social distancing and hand washing, so much the better. HBO’s “Watchmen” may not return for a second season, by creator choice, but at least it gave us this PSA about washing your hands.
O’Heir is beloved to “Parks and Recreation” fans thanks to his role as Jerry (or was it Garry? Larry?) on the show. Well he stepped back into the shoes of the clumsy but lovable character to try and advise folks on what to do during this pandemic to stay safe and healthy.
We’re sticking to the PSAs for now. Brooks is a comedy legend. His resume does not need to be recited here. And while he is up there in years now, and at an increased risk for the coronavirus, he still took the time to join forces with his son and author Max Brooks to try and convince people to just stay inside already.
Dench won an Oscar for a brief but memorable role in “Shakespeare in Love.” Did you ever imagine her taking the time to do a PSA while wearing a completely ridiculous hat? Well she has. You may know the facts by now, but it is still worth watching.
McConaughey knows that right now things aren’t, ahem, all right, all right, all right. As such, he too took to social media to provide a PSA. He’s not just promoting social distancing, but the Oscar winner also notes how important it is not to overtax our hospitals.
People on the internet love Danny DeVito. Teenagers take cardboard cutouts of him to their proms. He’s likely to get the attention of a young demographic to get them to stay at home and socially distance. There’s a reason why New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweets out his PSA.
“Sweet Caroline” is one of the most — pardon the word in this time — infectious singalong songs ever. It’s also one that involves lyrics about hands touching hands and reaching out. You know, stuff we shouldn’t do right now. As such, Diamond picked up a guitar, sat by a fire, and sang a parody of “Sweet Caroline” about washing hands.
The United Kingdom was hit pretty hard by the coronavirus, which has taxed the National Health Service. Like in this country, doctors and medical professionals are in need of supplies. McAvoy, the Scottish star of the most recent “X-Men” series, has donated 275,000 pounds to Masks for NHS Heroes. As you can probably guess, it’s dedicated to providing vital face masks to NHS doctors.
Talk about spreading the love. When Kimmel hasn’t been filming his talk show at home, he’s been doing a lot of donating. In fact, Kimmel has been donating to a different charity for every day he has been quarantined. He’s come a long way from being the co-host of “The Man Show.”
Like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kunis has given $100,000 to the Frontline Responders Fund. Unlike Gwyneth, she doesn’t make any of her money from a company like GOOP. Hey, in the end, they are both part of the reason that the Frontline Responders Fund has made over $3 million en route to their goal of $10 million.
Being married to a fellow country star in this era of quarantining is helpful. Brooks and Yearwood decided to take to Facebook to do a livestream of a concert from their home. It was so popular that the video crashed after millions turned in. This got them a special on CBS, where many more fans were able to get some entertainment from home.
Adejuyigbe is best known from his podcasts and viral videos, though he’s also done some TV work and written for some impressive shows. And yet you may know him best from his end credit songs he writes for movies that don’t have one. Well he took to Twitter to say that anybody who showed him proof of a $10 donation to a food bank would get a chance to pick a movie for him to write an end credits song for. On top of that, Demi joined forces with the likes of Danny Brown, Kevin Morby and Mac DeMarco to do a video in the vein of Gadot’s “Imagine” video, but to Blink-182’s “I Miss You.”
We’re all looking for ways to occupy our time, and new music is always appreciated. Well, for a brief period of time, Glover was streaming 12 news songs for free on his website. The songs have disappeared, but at least for a short while fans of his music got some new stuff for free.
Fans of musicals love Miranda. His “Hamilton” took the world by storm. Broadway is closed down right now, though, so Miranda used his popularity try to help. He took to Periscope to rap “My Shot” to raise money for The Actors Fund and Broadway Cares. Miranda also released an unreleased demo track from “Hamilton” called “I Have This Friend” to try and make people feel better during these troubled times.
The playwright Terrence McNally was one of the first notable people to die from COVID-19 complications. In his honor, and to raise money for an AIDS emergency fund, Ferguson, Quinto and other actors staged a live reading of McNally’s play “Lips Together, Teeth Apart.”
Bamford is not your typical standup comedian to begin with. She is known for asking strangers to meet up with her at places like coffee shops so she can workshop her material. Like all standups, right now she is unable to get out there on tour, so she is taking her one-on-one approach to the internet. Bamford has been performing standup sets for individual fans virtually, an experience that seems likely to help all parties involved.
Unable to head out to perform music, or to make more ads for carbonated water brands, Buble has spent a lot of time engaging with fans online. Buble and his wife, Luisana Lopilato, have been going live on Facebook at the same time several days a week. The different days have different themes as well.
Bono, the frontman of U2, has never been shy about dealing with global issues and political matters in his music. Right now, he’s been doing what most of us have been doing: sitting in isolation and watching the news. Bono decided to take his time to write and perform a new song called “Let Your Love Be Known,” which is about the current crisis we are facing. He also paid tribute to all the frontline workers in the process as well.
Comedians joining together to raise money for good causes is a longtime tradition. Recently, a bunch of comedians took part in Laugh Aid, a streaming fundraiser for the Comedy Gives Back COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund. Howie Mandel, who we mentioned earlier, was one of the people who helped host. So was Cummings, who partook in some improv games with Drew Carey and chatted with Adam Sandler. Overall, they raised a little over $350,000.
Providing people with masks to try and help suppress the spread of coronavirus is important right now, especially for medical professionals. Wang, the director of “The Farewell,” made an effort to try and help make it easier for those professionals to get them. She collected unused masks around L.A. to donate them to a local ER.
Social media movements are a good way to spread awareness. Remember when people were pouring ice buckets on themselves to raise awareness for ALS? Well Bacon started a hashtag called #IStayHomeFor to try and express the importance of social distancing to try and protect the health of the people you care about. He then worked to get other celebrities to jump on the hashtag as well. We have it on good authority that he’s only a few degrees of separation from just about everybody in Hollywood.
The rapper, along with fellow rapper Jay-Z, have a criminal justice reform organization that is already established and in place. Obviously, prisons haven’t been spared from the coronavirus. So Mill and Jay-Z used their group, REFORM Alliance, to send 100,000 surgical masks to prisons around the country.
While she rose to fame as an actor, Alba has been even more successful with her environmentally friendly household and personal products company, Honest. One of its big products is diapers, which can be pricey but are also absolutely necessary for parents. To try and alleviate the financial burden on families, Alba and Honest have donated 3 million diapers, among other products, to people in need.
We mentioned her husband, Kanye West, earlier, but Kardashian has been doing her own thing to try and help out during the coronavirus. The reality star has a clothing company called Skims, and Kardashian promised 20 percent of its profits will be going to Baby2Baby, which provides necessary items for babies, for the time being. After that, she added another $1 million donation to families in need.
To be able to rise to the level of celebrity as a showrunner is pretty impressive. However, plenty of us are well aware who Rimes, Lindelof and others like David Benioff are. Well a bunch of high-profile showrunners have banded together to donate to the Hollywood Support Staff COVID-19 Relief Fund. Many assistants and other similar professionals are out of work at the moment, so they are trying to raise money to help them make ends meet for the time being. Lindelof in particular promised $75,000 to the fund. Maybe you can stop complaining about “Lost” now?
Schur didn’t just play a part in the creation of shows like “Parks and Recreation,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “The Good Place.” He also wrote for “The Office” and played Mose on that show. Mose, and his beard, come into play here. Schur started a drive to raise money for the Los Angeles Food Bank and was willing to put himself on the line to encourage people to do the same. Because people donated over $167,000 to the L.A. Food Bank, Schur is growing back his Mose beard (due to an online vote) and will film a video of himself wearing a Derek Jeter jersey and eating a hot fruit pie. That makes a lot more sense if you know Schur’s feelings on such topics.
They say you should sing “Happy Birthday” while you wash your hands to make sure you do it long enough. That song is kind of dull though, right? Well Flowers has an earworm for you. The frontman of “The Killers” helped give us the song “Mr. Brightside,” and he filmed a video of himself washing his hands to the tune of the song to help instruct people on proper hand washing. And now “Mr. Brightside” is stuck in your head.
Legend is one of the many musicians who has taken to performing online concerts to give people virtual entertainment. His show, which of course featured an appearance by his wife, Chrissy Teigen, streamed on Facebook and Instagram. “We’re trying to find ways to stay in touch with people and give them some love,” he said.
Martin, the frontman of Coldplay, was one of the first musicians to jump into the virtual concert realm. Martin's was the first of a series of concerts performed under the banner of #TogetherAtHome. His show was far from perfect, but fans on Instagram likely weren’t complaining.
Brown isn’t a chef who became a TV personality. He’s a guy who started as a director and taught himself to cook. That makes him the perfect candidate to make cooking videos to help people in this time. In addition to making livestream videos of himself and his wife making dinner, Brown has been creating recipe videos to help people make use of the food they may have sitting around this house while supplies are low.
