There’s just one question that needs to be asked in the legacy sequel trailer for I Know What You Did Last Summer. And that’s obviously just what did this new group of friends do last summer? If the original I Know What You Did Last Summer movie is any indication, it was nothing good. And now they’re about to pay the price for it… But at least they have help from some people who have done it before. The trailer for the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie is here, and it brings us cameos, camp, and a whole new terrifying summer adventure.

As The Fisherman returns to Southport, and a new group of friends starts dropping dead, it’s time for some cameos. Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.) from 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer are here to support the new generation of car crashers and hopefully stop them from getting hooked. We see their return in this new trailer.
Will it help? If the I Know What You Did Last Summer trailer is any indication, not that much. That was a deadly dispatching we saw in its early moments. We are excited to see that though there’s a modern drama and sensibility to the filmmaking, Writer-director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson isn’t afraid to keep high-camp, hilarious moments in the mix for 2025’s version of I Know What You Did Last Summer (the fourth movie in the franchise overall.) For instance, we love the bloody bath bomb that Madelyn Cline’s character immerses herself in as The Fisherman guts her boyfriend one floor below her. The framing of a meditation audiobook is also quite good. Camp for the modern age.
Robinson told EW, “Visually, for me, it was about going back to my biggest touchstone for this movie, Jaws. I was like, ‘I want beautiful colors, beautiful setting, blue water, red blood.’ For me, it’s kind of like a throwback, and what I hope is that it feels like it’s fresh in its nostalgia.” That’s exactly the energy we are receiving in this I Know What You Did Last Summer trailer.
Although we see Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. from the original 1997 movie in this trailer, we shouldn’t expect to see Sarah Michelle Gellar. Robinson jokes, “I tried, okay? I harassed her! But she is dead. I tried to pitch some crazy s— too. I was like, ‘What if it’s like you weren’t dead and you’re actually alive, but in hiding?'” But Gellar wasn’t having it. “Sarah’s like, ‘I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, but what if?’ And she said, ‘I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar.'” Well, it sounds unlikely, but who knows, maybe it’s all just a fakeout and Sarah Michelle Gellar is actually the new Fisherman in I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025. We’re also still hoping to see Brandy appear in the new movie.
In addition to the trailer, Sony has revealed the synopsis for I Know What You Did Last Summer. It reads, “When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.”
Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, and Sarah Pidgeon head up the new cast for I Know What You Did Last Summer. Meanwhile, as mentioned, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt cameo from the original movie.
We hope the survivors can help, or else, “You’re next…”
