Aaron Judge exhibited a lot of class back in 2017 after finishing runner-up to Jose Altuve in American League MVP voting, tweeting out a congratulatory message to the Houston Astros star.

In the wake of Monday’s stunning developments related to how Major League Baseball levied severe punishments upon the Astros organization amid the conclusion of its investigation into the team’s sign-stealing scandal, the New York Yankees slugger deleted the tweet.

Judge’s original social media dispatch, posted in November 2017, read, “M-V-P! Nobody more deserving than you!! Congrats on an unforgettable 2017!! @josealtuve27” According to the New York Post, the tweet no longer exists.

Altuve won the 2017 AL MVP in a landslide, netting 27 of 29 first-place votes. Judge did not go empty-handed when it comes to hardware, however, as his outstanding debut season culminated with him unanimously winning the AL Rookie of the Year award.

The Yankees are one of the teams left most embittered by MLB’s conclusion that the Astros employed sophisticated, technological sign-stealing methods during the 2017 regular season and postseason — as well as the 2018 season — to gain an upper edge on opponents. The Astros beat the Yankees in the ALCS in 2017 on the way to a World Series title.

When the bombshell news broke in November about the scandal, Judge tweeted out confusion over the stunning allegations.

It’s unlikely that the Yankees will issue any official statement about Major League Baseball’s findings on the Astros, as the Los Angeles Dodgers — another team understandably left fuming over the investigation’s conclusions given the team’s loss to the Astros in the 2017 World Series — indicated on social media that the league has instituted a gag order on any such commentary.

The punishment meted out to the Astros organization are indeed severe. The penalties, among other consequences, ultimately led to the dismissal of manager A.J. Hinch and GM Jeff Luhnow after the two were suspended for one season by the league.
