A potential blockbuster trade involving Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts looks increasingly likely. The Red Sox are reportedly more serious than ever about a Betts’ trade, per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.

According to Heyman, rival clubs around the league are beginning to thinking a trade involving Betts will happen. While many teams remain involved, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres are being linked the most to Betts.

The Padres and Red Sox have been discussing a deal for some time. If a deal were to happen, San Diego would likely ship outfielder Wil Myers’ contract along with top prospects to the Red Sox.

Betts, who is owed $27 million next season, is entering the final year of his contract before hitting free agency. The Red Sox are looking to trim payroll before the season and moving Betts’ contract would be a significant step towards that.

The 27-year-old is coming off another excellent season in Boston. A four-time All-Star and Gold Glove Award recipient, Betts hit 29 home runs with 80 RBI and a .915 OPS this past year.

Already in search of a new manager to replace Alex Cora with an ongoing investigation into alleged sign-stealing hanging over them, the Red Sox could be headed for more change before the season begins.
