The Los Angeles Lakers are undeniably one of the most popular, most financially lucrative franchises in pro sports, and the arrival of LeBron James last year only helped that dynamic.
Speaking of which, Mike Trudell of Spetrum SportsNet shared Friday that, for the second year in a row, James’ jersey was the most popular in the league and the Lakers had the top merchandise sales in the NBA.
James was joined by Anthony Davis in the top 10 of jersey sales, and they were the only duo to achieve that.
In other news: the NBA announced that @KingJames and the @Lakers “secured the top spots on the NBA’s Most Popular Jersey and Team Merchandise lists for the second consecutive year.” The Lakers were the only team with 2 Top 10 players, as Anthony Davis ranked 8th.— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) January 17, 2020
In addition to James and Davis being two of the Association’s biggest stars, it certainly doesn’t hurt the Lakers that they’ve been winning this season. Roughly halfway through the regular season, Los Angeles has a nice four-game lead over the field and appears to be cruising to the top seed in the postseason.
