Luka Doncic Talks About His First Time Meeting Michael Jordan: "I Was Asking People To Give Me That Video So I Could Post It"
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Luka Doncic is going to grace the cover of SLAM Magazine to promote his first-ever signature shoe released by Jordan. Doncic is in an elite group of people to have received his own signature shoe, something he had to wait for longer than players like Zion Williamson, who received a signature shoe as a rookie.

This offseason has been about Luka ensuring he represents his country at the highest level of European basketball at the 2022 EuroBasket. Doncic has been putting up stellar performances internationally and is being pegged as the favorite to win MVP in the upcoming regular season, even though Luka is proving himself as an all-time playoff performer.

Luka is keeping pace with the playoff records that Michael Jordan had once set. He is a regular 30-point scorer in the playoffs and has the second-highest points per game in post-season history with 32.4 points. The only man ahead of him is MJ, the man that signed Luka to Jordan Brand and gave him his first signature shoe. Luka spoke about his first-time meeting MJ in an interview with SLAM for his cover story feature.

“I wouldn’t say all my life, but everyone in my country was MJ! MJ! It was unbelievable the first time I met him, and I was really nervous. I didn’t know what to say. His legacy is unbelievable, since I was 1 year old.”

Doncic finally got to meet the GOAT at his second trip to All-Star Weekend. His response to Mike running up at him during this year’s ASW is hilariously endearing.

“It was amazing,” he says. “I was asking people to give me that video so I could post it. If MJ knows you, like, that’s unbelievable.” (h/t SLAM)

No matter how big of a star someone is, they will always humble themselves around Michael Jordan. Even Doncic understands that, even if the Slovenian star has previously professed that LeBron James was his idol growing up.

Hopefully, we get to see more moments of Luka and Jordan interacting, as it seems Doncic could be another possible heir to the throne of the best player in the NBA.
