Steve Kerr Explains Jordan Poole’s Turnover Struggles

The Golden State Warriors made a huge financial commitment to Jordan Poole in the offseason.

And even though he’s had his fair share of ups and downs throughout his young career, he’s shown the potential to be a franchise player and smooth the transition in the post-Stephen Curry era.

However, Poole has been quite turnover-prone in an expanded role, including a costly late-game turnover that led to a loss to the Detroit Pistons.

Even so, coach Steve Kerr is more than confident in Poole and believes it’s just a matter of time before the game slows down for him:

“I sometimes think Jordan is trying too hard to make a play,” Kerr told 95.7 The Game. “I’ve always felt that the game is more difficult for the players who are more talented when they’re young because they have sort of a big menu of possibilities in front of them. If you’re not as talented, you’re immediately limited in terms of what you can and can’t do, and that was definitely the case for me as a player. I knew that there was so much that I couldn’t do that I didn’t even bother trying. But if you’re Jordan, you can pretty much do everything. And from there, it becomes a case of learning when to shoot, when to drive, when to pass, when to make the decision to do all those things, and it takes time.”

Poole will continue to be in that position even when Curry comes back.

He’s one of their best shot-creators and the kind of bucket-getter you need on the floor when the game is on the line.

So, yeah, he’s going to have a blunder or two; it’s just inevitable.

Hopefully, there will be fewer of those down the line.
