Video Shows Wild Reaction After Kevon Looney Game Winner
D. Ross Cameron-USA TODAY Sports

It took them two overtimes, a buzzer-beater, and a 54-point explosion by Klay Thompson, but the Golden State Warriors kept their winning streak alive with a 143-141 win against the Atlanta Hawks.

Notably, the game-winning shot didn’t come from one of the usual suspects like the aforementioned Thompson or Jordan Poole.

Instead, of all people, it was Dubs big man Kevon Looney who got the job done after a couple of offensive rebounds:

“The first one, I rushed it really quickly, and I just realized nobody was panicking or celebrating,” Looney said postgame. “I knew I had time to go back up. Everybody dreams about getting a game-winner, so whenever you have a chance, it’s a great moment,” the big man added. “Especially in a double-overtime game where everybody was exhausted.”

While Thompson stole most of the headlines, and rightfully so, Looney also had a game to remember.

On top of the game-winner and the epic celebration, Looney logged 14 points, five assists, and a career-high 20 rebounds, including ten on the offensive glass.

Of course, expecting Kevon Looney to post these kinds of numbers on a nightly basis isn’t realistic for Steve Kerr‘s team, and the same goes for Thompson.

But the important thing is that the reigning NBA champions continue to scrape their way into wins while Stephen Curry is still nursing that shoulder injury.

Stringing multiple wins together will be huge for a team that was desperately craving some momentum after a disappointing start to the season and multiple injuries.
