Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Joins Manning, Brees In This Crazy Stat

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are once again among the best teams in the NFL. Their game against the Houston Texans was tougher than anticipated, as Kansas City needed overtime to defeat them, but the win pushed their record to 11-3 on the season.

They have taken permanent residency atop the AFC West as this marks their seventh consecutive division title. The Chiefs have been a model of consistency since Andy Reid took over, winning at least nine games in all 10 seasons and making the playoffs in nine of them.

A lot of their success stems from their explosive offense. Kansas City has ranked in the top six in yardage gained and points scored for what looks like it is going to be six straight seasons. The combination of head coach Andy Reid, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is something no opponent has been able to consistently find success against.

It looked like maybe something was figured out last season as Kansas City struggled at times to move the ball downfield. With Tyreek Hill being traded in the offseason, some people thought we would see their efficiency drop a bit. Those people have been proven wrong as the Chiefs are explosive as ever.

Mahomes has actually thrived without his former No. 1 receiver as he is putting together another MVP-caliber season. He is currently leading the NFL with 4,496 yards, 35 touchdowns, 321.1 yards per game and a QBR of 79.8.

There really isn’t anyone putting pressure on him on those statistics, either. Justin Herbert is second in yardage but is 477 yards behind. Joe Burrow is second in touchdowns with 31. Tua Tagovailoa is a distant second in QBR with a 71.8.

Mahomes is in a class of his own this season and he joined an exclusive group as well with his performance this season. There were only two quarterbacks in NFL history that had exactly four seasons of 35+ touchdown passes in the history of the league; Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. Now there are four, as Mahomes joined, itching 35 touchdowns for the fourth time in five seasons as a starter.
