Is Matt LaFleur going to bench Jordan Love?
Jordan Love Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

It has been quite a roller-coaster ride for Jordan Love in his first five games as the Green Bay Packers QB1. After a relatively strong start to the campaign, the young quarterback has now fallen back down to earth amid a string of lackluster performances.

His latest one came in the form of a three-interception game in Week 5 as the Packers suffered a 17-13 loss against the Las Vegas Raiders. Needless to say, Love has left a lot to be desired of late.

Green Bay Packers Coach Sounds Off on Jordan Love’s Struggles

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is not ready to play the blame game just yet. While there have been calls for Love to get benched, it appears that the Green Bay shot-caller remains confident in his QB’s abilities. According to LaFleur, Love isn’t completely to blame for his team’s struggles to start the season:

“I think a lot of times the quarterback gets too much blame when you’re not scoring points. That’s just the way it goes, especially when you’re turning over the ball,” LaFleur said, via Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal. “It comes down to us getting into a rhythm offensively. We have not done that. It’s been choppy; it’s felt disjointed.”

The man has a point. At the end of the day, Love can only do so much. While it’s absolutely true that he’s responsible for a big chunk of the offense, his teammates need to step up as well.

As LaFleur implied in his statement above, their “disjointed” offense has got to be better moving forward. He’s calling on the rest of the team to also put in a better effort moving forward — and it’s not just Jordan Love.

Nevertheless, this also does not mean that the former Utah State standout is off the hook.
