For the last seven years being a starting quarterback at Alabama has served as a one-way ticket to the NFL, something that Bryce Young and Jalen Hurts have in common. Hurts spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide before transferring to Oklahoma, then being selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. And Young spent the last two seasons in Tuscaloosa before being selected with No. 1 overall pick of the most recent NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.

Panthers running back Miles Sanders joined the team this offseason after spending the first four seasons of his career with Philadelphia, making him now familiar with both Hurts and Young. And on ‘The Rich Eisen Show’, Sanders revealed what the two have in common other than their alma mater.

“Just how they approach the game, very businesslike,” Sanders said. “And like I said, he’s there early and he leaves late, he’s the last one to leave and he’s getting a good grip of the locker room already.”

The two may not have the same playing style, with Hurts providing a powerful rushing threat to Philadelphia’s offense, but the two seem to have similar intangibles. Which is a great sign for Young, drawing comparisons to a quarterback whose reputation in the league early in his career has been that of a model teammate with great leadership qualities and a hard work ethic.

Hurts’ work ethic became evident last season, as he took a major leap in his third year with the Eagles. He developed and became a more polished passer, having the best season of his young career and helping lead Philadelphia all the way to the Super Bowl.

Young hasn’t played a single snap in the NFL yet in his career, but if his work ethic being reminiscent of Hurts’ already is a great sign for Carolina’s organization.

“He’s one of those guys that comes to work every day. Great mood but serious, and all about his business. That’s the main two similarities with them,” Sanders said.

Talent and production on the field is what everyone wants to see from their quarterback, but great leadership and an infectious personality from your quarterback is priceless, and something that Young already seems to possess similar to Hurts.

“Everybody just likes him, it’s hard not to like him,” Hurts said. “He’s very humble, but he knows he’s that guy. He’s very humble with it and like I said, he comes to work every day and puts on and you see it in the film.”
