Washington Commanders Named As Top Coaching Destination

Diana Russini of The Athletic wrote about what she is hearing around the league ahead of week 16. She had this to say about the potential head coach vacancy.

“I still can’t believe I typed Washington, a team that has had 21 quarterbacks over 20 years, as the top destination spot for coaches, but the Commanders are on the rise. They might be able to land their top candidate once they begin that process.”

The Commanders have lots of great assets. The quarterback position is in question as Sam Howell hasn’t made himself the clear quarterback of the future in 2023 but they have a lot of nice offensive pieces. The defense sold off some pieces at the deadline but this is part of what makes the job attractive. A lot of draft picks means a lot of opportunities to grab young talent.

2024 Outlook

We will have to see exactly where the Washington Commanders land in the draft order. They currently hold the fourth overall pick which puts them in a good position to get a quarterback if they choose to go that route. There is a lot of quality talent at the top of the draft so the team has lots of options. In the second and third rounds, the Commanders can also look to infuse a lot of young talent into the roster and build a winning culture.

Who will the Washington Commanders tab as their next head coach? There are plenty of options but there are also a lot of vacancies expected. It will be interesting to see what direction the organization decides to go.
