Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has openly mulled retirement the past few seasons, and the future Hall of Famer has officially made his decision to return for one more season. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the future Hall of Famer will return to Kansas City for his 14th season. Kelce, a four-time All-Pro, spent the entirety of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
There is a case to be made that Travis Kelce is the greatest tight end in the history of the NFL. At his peak, the former third-round was simply unstoppable on the football field and formed an unmatched duo with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. While he has slowed down a bit in his old age, he remains a reliable weapon. Starting and appearing in all 17 games last year, the 11-time Pro Bowler finished the season with 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns on 108 targets. Despite his strong play, the Chiefs missed the playoffs and finished the season with a top-10 pick.
Travis Kelce originally entered the league as a third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Selected by the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cincinnati product missed most of his rookie season to injury but made an immediate impact when on the field. He broke out in a big way in 2014, finishing the season with 67 receptions for 862 yards and five touchdowns on 87 targets. He followed that up by earning his first Pro Bowl selection in 2015 and his first 1,100-yard season in 2016.
Kelce spent the next decade establishing himself as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. Throughout the course of his 13-year NFL career, the future Hall of Famer has recorded 1,080 receptions for 13,002 yards and 82 touchdowns on 1,508 targets. Since signing his rookie contract, Travis Kelce has won three Super Bowls, made 11 Pro Bowls, and earned a spot on the Hall of Fame’s All-2010’s Team.
