Will Howard: Steelers Rookie Quarterback Dynasty Outlook
Main Photo: Adam Cairns Imagn Images

Will Howard spent four seasons at Kansas State before transferring to Ohio State in his super senior season to lead the Buckeyes to a National Championship. Howard was drafted in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Howard was in a good position to be the starting quarterback for the Steelers, but then they signed Aaron Rodgers. What does Rodgers’s signing mean for him, and what is Will Howard’s dynasty outlook?

Dynasty Outlook for Will Howard

Current Production

Howard did not have much playing time and production in his first three seasons, failing to play in more than nine games and throwing for less than 2000 yards each season. He had a solid senior season, playing in all twelve games while throwing for 2643 passing yards, 24 touchdown passes, and ten interceptions.

He transferred to Ohio State for his fifth year of college football and had an amazing season. In 16 games started, Howard completed 73% of his passes, threw for over 4000 passing yards, 35 passing touchdowns, and just ten interceptions. He added seven rushing touchdowns as well. Of course, Howard led the Buckeyes to a National Championship.

Dynasty Price

According to KeepTradeCut, a website that crowdsources dynasty values from players who use the site, Howard is the QB36. Before the Draft, he was the QB45, went up to the QB33, and down to QB36 after the Rodgers signing. He is currently ranked right behind Daniel Jones, Russell Wilson, and Joe Milton while ranked ahead of Aaron Rodgers, Dillon Gabriel, and Quinn Ewers.

Howard is the sixth quarterback off the board in 2025 dynasty rookie drafts, going behind Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe, Tyler Shough, and Shedeur Sanders, and is going in the third round in Superflex leagues.

Will Howard Dynasty Outlook

Howard joins a quarterback room in Pittsburgh of Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, and Skylar Thompson. Rodgers is the starter for the Steelers, while Rudolph will probably be the backup quarterback. Howard will get a chance to learn behind one of the best quarterbacks of all time in Rodgers. However, Howard will probably not see the field in 2025.

Rodgers’ contract is only for one year, while Rudolph signed a two-year deal. If Howard can beat out Rudolph for the starting job, this opens the door for Howard to compete to start in 2026.

Howard was a sixth-round quarterback for a reason. Draft scouts do not see elite talent in him. Additionally, how much did playing at Ohio State with elite playmakers all around him help benefit him? Even if Howard does get a chance to start, is he talented enough to be a successful NFL quarterback?

Should You Draft Will Howard in Dynasty Leagues?

I am passing on Will Howard in dynasty drafts. Many other players have more upside than Howard in the third round of rookie drafts, such as Tory Horton or Pat Bryant. Howard was a great success at Ohio State last year, but that might be the highlight of his football playing career, leading to a discouraging dynasty outlook for Howard.
