Liverpool’s season has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. They won the 2024/25 season by ten points, and confidence was high that they could repeat their success in the 2025/26 season. However, the devastating passing of Diogo Jota understandably affected Liverpool, and sluggish performances from key players have contributed to a poor season so far. They have recently been beaten comfortably by Manchester City in the FA Cup and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter final first leg. Liverpool have now announced that Andy Robertson will leave the club this summer.
Andy Robertson’s contract is due to expire this summer, and he was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool confirmed Robertson’s departure via their website, where it read:
“Liverpool FC can confirm Andy Robertson will bring his Reds career to an end at the conclusion of the current season.
After nine hugely successful campaigns at Anfield, the Scotland captain will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer.
He will do so as a genuine Liverpool legend, having played a fundamental role in the successes of recent years over the course of his 373 appearances to date.”
Robertson moved to Anfield from Hull City in 2017 and has enjoyed great success, winning two Premier League titles, a Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups, as well as the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield.
Earlier this season, Kerkez praised Robertson and how he’s made it easier for him to settle at Anfield. Describing their relationship, he said: “Really good.
“Before the game (on Saturday) he motivated me, told me: ‘Go outside and do your thing that you were doing last season’ so he gave me a bit of a push.
“Then after the game he congratulated me and told me that I should keep going like that. We are good.
“He’s a legend who did amazing things, won everything and still has quality. It’s not like he’s not here. He’s a squad player. This is Liverpool, we’re competing.
“He’s pushing me, I’m pushing him and I think that’s important to have in a big club like this.”
