Celtics' Rivers surfaces, but doesn't talk future es.pn/15l3K10 — ESPNBoston (@ESPNBoston) May 31, 2013 I'm not going to read too much into the fact that Doc didn't talk about the Celtics or declare his intentions for next season during the interview. Stephen A and Ryan Ruocco were discussing the playoffs and had Doc call in as an analyst to discuss those playoffs. Stephen A didn't ask about next year and it would have been out of place for Doc to bring it up. It just wasn't the time or place. However, in closing, Stephen A did have this to say, “In the very near future you will be hearing from me again to talk about your Boston Celtics.” Doc replied that it sounded good. So I don't think we should read anything into the fact that he didn't discuss the Celtics in this interview. He did talk about the playoffs and a couple other tidbits that stemmed from that discussion. Here are a few of his thoughts from the interview. He feels that the playoffs are playing out as most expected with few surprises, other than the fact that the Celtics should still be alive. When Stephen A asked if the long term prognosis of Miami was fools gold because all you have to do is to get physical and get tough inside and it will give them problems, Doc pointed out that giving them problems and beating them are 2 different things. He feels that Indiana has been able to hang in there against Miami and even has a chance to beat them because of their size. Wade's injury has taken some away from Miami's efficiency. The role players (Bosh, Allen, Battier, Chalmers) will need to step up for the Heat to win. Stephen A brought up the future of the East and asked Doc how he felt seeing physical, tough and big teams coming up in the East and how Boston could compete. Doc replied that they just have to load up and keep improving the roster. Doc gave props to Chicago and said that Thibs is an amazing coach. Their roster with Deng, Boozer, Gibson, Noah, Hinrich (one of Doc's favorites) and Rose will be one of the deepest in the East next season. Doc mentioned how Paul George grew about 3 inches after he was drafted and his growth as a player is almost limitless. Doc feels that he is an underrated defender and is one of the best in the league, right up there with Tony Allen. You can listen to the whole interview here.  [Discuss on CG Forums!]
