Very little surprises me in the media these days. Information is instantaneous, and more people than ever have a voice thanks to the blogging revolution, leading to a surplus of the written word. In most cases very little could catch you off guard just because seemingly everything has been discussed from every angle. Yet, this surprised me. ESPN College basketball writer Jeff Goodman tore Rajon Rondo apart today in his column while discussing the hire of Brad Stevens as coach. This wasn't about Rondo's play, but instead his "confrontational" personality, and his ability to be coached. Here are some of the "highlights". But Stevens isn’t yet equipped to handle the egos of the NBA, especially that of Rondo. “That’s the biggest question,” said one source familiar with both Stevens and Rondo. “Brad isn’t a confrontational guy and Rondo is the opposite. This could be a disaster.” Rondo is difficult, according to numerous sources who have played wit...

Rajon Rondo: The Celtics’ sudden unknown

We can have whatever debates we want about Rondo.  To some, he is an enigmatic genius whose on-court prescience and mastery of angles make him a uniquely...

And finally, after the last month of rumors and dread and pain and heartbreak, the good news begins. This afternoon, the Boston Celtics and Butler University announced that 36-year old head coach Brad Stevens would be going pro. Rajon Rondo’s Desire to Be Next Celtics Great Complicates Team’s Rebuilding Effort

He clashes with teammates. He bumps referees, when he’s not tossing basketballs at them. He stares icily at reporters who ask him questions he doesn’t appreciate. And despite all that has happened, he still very much wants to be here. Rajon Rondo is many things, not all of them things that everyone likes. But this much has to be said for the Celtics’ All-Star point guard: He...

Three reasons why it's a bad idea for the Celtics to trade Rajon Rondo

Yesterday Danny Ainge said that he's taken calls from other teams regarding Rajon Rondo, but that he has no intentions of dealing away his All-Star point guard.  A Sporting News article by Sean Deveney also sites a source who says Rondo has not asked to be traded, despite being the lone holdover from the Celtics 2010 Finals team.  However, the trade rumors regarding Rondo never...

While the hiring of Brad Stevens as their next head coach was widely perceived around the league as a good move by the Celtics, the question of how Rajon Rondo would react to the news still lingered. Despite reports that things got heated sometimes, Doc Rivers and Rondo still had a tight bond and a good relationship overall. So how will Rondo, who remains the centerpiece of the team’s...

Your Morning Dump… Where the Rondo/Stevens relationship should be fine

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. There will be much talk about “how he will handle Rajon Rondo” and “will he be able to get through to Rondo.” But all this discussion presupposes a claim we have not purchased — that Rondo is clinically...

Brad Stevens while being introduced as Celtics coach: 'There's no bigger fan of Rajon Rondo than me'

Photo courtesy A. Sherrod Blakely I didn't post on the Stevens hire the other day because we already had numerous articles on it, but I feel like I need to chime in after his introduction.
