Before meeting the Boston Celtics Saturday night, one day after beating them by one point in overtime, Philadelphia 76ers coach Doug Collins said his team should be better-prepared to meet for the second time in as many nights.Collins pointed out the specific amount of minutes the Celtics big names have played, using their long careers as basis for his theory: “There’s no reason those guys should be fresher than us. Not with the amount of playoff games, the amount of minutes they’ve put into this league.”Jason Terry, like most of his Celtics brethren, doesn’t appreciate being called old. He finished with his second straight poor scoring performance Saturday, but he did so in a 92-79 win, so he didn’t really mind the 3-9 shooting. (MetroWest Daily News)“Fresh legs don’t mean anything if you don’t have the heart to go with it,” Terry said. “You’ve got three champions here when you talk about the guys who’ve logged the most minutes over the last however many years.“After losing a game like (Friday) night, this was personal. Philly has had our number, so to speak, and this was a game for us to prove to ourselves that team is not better than us.”Old and ornery, talented and vindictive. Yes, Terry fits in pretty well in Boston. And yes, I know the Celtics are considerably younger this season. Please don’t let facts get in the way of the narrative.P.S. — Since when do the Celtics have to prove to themselves they’re better than the Philadelphia 76ers?
