LA CROSSE, WI – The La Crosse Loggers Baseball Club added a pair of big right-handers to their pitching staff today when team officials announced the signings of sophomores Cole Baylis and Scott Schultz from Oregon State University.

Baylis is a 6-8, 214 pound right-hander who opened this 2012 season as the Beavers number two starter this past weekend, earning a no-decision after tossing four innings and surrendering one run against UC-Santa Barbara. The Los Altos, Calif. native is no stranger to summer collegiate baseball as he got his feet wet last summer pitching for the Wenatchee Apple Sox of the West Coast Collegiate League. While there he appeared in eight games, including three starts, and went 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA in 16 innings, striking out eight. As a freshman 2011, Baylis was a part of the OSU team that advanced to the Super Regionals. He posted a 1-0 record with a 2.25 ERA over 12 innings and struck out 12 while working primarily out of the bullpen.

Like teammate Cole Baylis, Scott Schultz is also familiar with summer collegiate baseball as the sophomore right-hander excelled for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League in 2011 posting a 4-3 record with a 3.54 ERA over 28 innings while striking out 29 and walking just nine. The Gig Harbor, Wash. native was just as effective for the Beavers last spring when he went 4-1 with a 3.61 ERA over 21 appearances (3 starts) while limiting opponents to a 2.50 batting average.

Baylis, Schultz and the rest of the Loggers will open their 2012 NWL campaign on Thursday, May 30 by traveling to Wisconsin Rapids to take on the Rafters in the first of a two-game set. The Loggers 2012 home opener is set for Saturday, June 2 when the Lumbermen play host to the Madison Mallards at Copeland Park at 6:05 p.m. The same two teams will meet again on Sunday, June 3 marking the 10-year anniversary date of the first ever Logger game at Copeland Park (June 3, 2003). Season tickets are on sale now at the Loggers ticket office (1225 Caledonia Street, La Crosse) or by calling at 608-796-9553.
