Johnson –– the team's new owner and former Lakers point guard–– and Kemp –– the Dodgers' All-Star outfielder –– were paired together for a photo shoot recently as they will both be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. In their own ways, they both bridge the dynamic between sports talent and entertainment. Johnson was a five-time NBA championship who is also a constant presence on the big screen and in television as well. Kemp, meanwhile, is capitalizing on his celebrity. Kemp, Rivara prepare for return to Dodgers

How long can the Dodgers survive with the kiddie brigade? Since Matt Kemp went on the 15-day disabled list, they have barely missed a beat, going 7-3. Twice theyve started lineups with only one regular. Every minor leaguer called up has had his moment. Still, its not reasonable to expect the young bucks to keep this up indefinitely, which means the news that both Kemp and Juan...

Landing the Winter Classic in Dodgers Stadium would be a feat of Magic (Johnson)

Outdoor hockey and Los Angeles seem to work together like oil and water, dogs and cats, or Canadiens and Bruins. But don’t tell that to the newly installed Dodger brass who are touting their ballpark as a future site of the Winter Classic. The new ownership group led by former Lakers point guard Magic Johnson is seeking to break away from the poor stewardship of Frank and Jamie...

Dodgers stay on their season-long roll

PHOENIX Five runs down. Five starters, including MVP candidate Matt Kemp, on the disabled list. The Hollywood sign could fall into Chavez Ravine and it would not matter. No impediment seems to get in the Los Angeles Dodgers way this season, as they proved it again Tuesday. The Dodgers overcame two five-run leads and were down to their last out before rallying to become the first...

Staff Keeper League Notes: Week 8

This past week has been pretty tough for my team. I've been hit pretty hard by injuries with Matt Kemp, Emilio Bonifacio, and Miguel Olivo all on the DL. My team is dropping a bit and now it's looking much tighter in the standings. Hopefully Kemp comes back 100% and picks up where he left off in April. Hand injuries for hitters always scare me, especially thumb injuries....

Professor Pentland and the Homer's Odyssey

Jeff Pentland played with Reggie Jackson and has tutored Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Carlos Beltran and Matt Kemp, to name-drop just a few. He has advanced degrees in biomechanics. His playing days were on both sides of the chessboard; pitcher and hitter. What he doesn't know about the art/science of hitting may not be worth knowing. No wonder the Dodgers fired him as their hitting...
