Hoopsworld’s Yannis Koutroupis caught-up with Celtics forward Jared Sullinger after today’s 95-88 loss to Orlando in Summer League play. Sullinger is not participating, but is with team in O-Town. He told Kennedy that Boston’s doubters may be in for a surprise this year, and that “Celtic pride” is still alive and well: “You got to understand, with you being a Celtic you have Celtic pride,” Celtics second-year power forward Jared Sullinger said to HOOPSWORLD. “With Celtic pride we don’t tank. You have to bleed green or else you might as well get out of town.” I absolutely love this. Sullinger knows that the Celtics are going to be a much different team this year, but he sounds like a guy that is ready to face the challenge. And the “bleed green” comments? Sounds like he is beginning to take on the role of the team’s new emotional leader. Sully went on to say that dealing with doubt is nothing new to him, and he & the Celtics are ready to prove some folks wrong: “It’s been like

The Fab Melo challenge facing the Celtics

The Celtics face a bit of a challenge with Fab Melo this season. The second year center is still not ready to be a contributor at the NBA level.  His movements on the floor were often slow yesterday, especially laterally.  He had trouble catching the ball.  And while it wasn’t all bad for Melo yesterday, it wasn’t great, either. So it would seem that another trip to Maine...

Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck on Doc: 'Doc left us, period. It was his idea and he left'

When the Celtics introduced Brad Stevens on Friday, I said that it was time to stop talking about Doc Rivers. I believe that he went back on a lot of what he said over the years (being the Jerry Sloan of the Celtics, being willing to rebuild, ect.), but at the end of the day, everything worked out. Doc would coach a contender next season, and the Celtics would have a phenomenal young...

Celtkicks: Summer League Day 2

Olynyk on day one: 25pts, 7 boards on 9/12 FG. Celtics rookies Kelly Olynyk and Colton Iverson brought out some nice kicks today, as did camp invite Phil Pressey. All three members of the C’s NBA Summer League team rolled with Nike today: Olynyk rocked the Kobe VII “World Basketball Festival” again, Iverson wore the Nike Hyperdisruptor & Pressey had on my personal fave...

Boston Celtics want Kelly Olynyk to be more aggressive throughout Orlando Pro Summer League

(Photo courtesy of Boston Herald- Staff photo by John Wilcox.) ORLANDO- Late in the first quarter,Kelly Olynyk caught the ball at the top of the key with some airspace, but instead of taking the open 3-point shot, he hesitated, put the ball on the floor and was whistled for a travel. “If you’re open, shoot the ball,” shouted Celtics summer league coach Jay Larranaga. Olynyk...

Celtics sign 1st-round draft choice Olynyk

The Boston Celtics have signed 7-footer Kelly Olynyk, their first-round draft choice. The Celtics traded up in last month's draft to pick Olynyk with the 13th overall selection. Olynyk made his summer league debut on Sunday and scored 25 points in the Celtics' 95-88 loss to the Houston Rockets. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge sent the No. 16 pick and two future second...

Celtics Stuff Live, from Orlando Summer League, at 8pm

By now you have been hit over the head with the fact that I’m here in Orlando for the Celtics Summer League.  Tonight at 8, Jon Duke (from CLS headquarters, deep under the sea off the coast of an undisclosed location in Maine) and I will talk a little bit about what I’ve seen in one day here, as well as how gosh-darn excited we are for the Brad Stevens era. Call us up at (718...

Underrated Stat of the Night - Pistons 7/8

Today, the Celtics beat the Pistons easily down in Orlando, 93-63. Yesterday, the Pistons played really well in their win over the Nets, so I expected a good competition from them today. But they didn't play well at all. I'm not saying Boston didn't earn the win, but this one should've been closer. Due to the Pistons' performance, this one was really boring....

Stevens, Olynyk Intro’d To Celtics Fans

Fans of the Celtics finally got introduced to the team’s new coach, Brad Stevens, over the weekend. He got off to a good start by saying all the right things. He dropped a “wow” when describing the idea of being hired as the C’s 17th coach. We also got a few nods to the history of the Celtics. Danny Ainge praised Stevens, 36, and solidified that praise with a six-year deal...

Celtics Fall to Magic in Summer League Opener

The Boston Celtics opened up their Summer League stint with a 95-88 loss to the Orlando Magic. While it's nice to win ball games, the end result of these games aren't very significant in the minds of both head coaches and general managers. Instead, the focus is on each player's individual performance as each front office will consider a guy's Summer League output...

Celtics Romp Pistons in Day 2 of Summer League

Following yesterday's loss, the Boston Celtics bounced back in a big way this afternoon, defeating the Detroit Pistons 93-63. With the win, the Celtics became just the fifth team in Summer League history to knock off another squad by 30 or more points. Although it's just the Summer League, that's a pretty impressive achievement considering these guys have only been playing...

Rivers: We're still looking for couple more guys

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. -- No NBA team has been more active this offseason than the Clippers, but coach Doc Rivers said Monday they might not be done making moves. On the day the team introduced first-round draft pick Reggie Bullock to the media, Rivers indicated there could be a few more additions. "We're still looking for a couple of other guys," he said, "but...

Video: Brad Stevens talks to the media at Summer League on Sunday

Nice lengthy interview with Celtics new head coach Brad Stevens from the opening day of Summer League action. I love how humble this guy is. Danny doesn't do everything right, but this was a great hire. Video courtesy of the Boston Celtics.

Celtics Beat Pistons 93-63 Behind Another Strong Showing From Olynyk

The Boston Celtics defeated the Detroit Pistons by a final score of 93-63 in Summer League play on Monday. Kelly Olynyk had 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and five steals. Darius Johnson-Odom scored 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the floor. Tony Mitchell had six points and 10 rebounds for the Pistons. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 11 points but struggled with his shooting...

Underrated Stat of the Night - Magic 7/7

Despite a nice 25 points from Kelly Olynyk, the Celtics lost their Summer League opener to the Magic today, 95-88. In the standings, the Magic now have 5 points while the Celtics have just 2, as they led two quarters. But this one was still fun to watch. They don't need to win every exhibition game. And they have another one tomorrow. Today's USOTN goes to the performance...
