Tweet The hype surrounding Kansas incoming freshman Andrew Wiggins is real. Not only is Wiggins tabbed as the future top overall NBA draft pick whenever he’s eligible to declare, but apparently he already has a nine-figure shoe contract waiting for him before he even sets foot on an NBA court. According to a report from Bleacher Report, athletic shoe brand Adidas is prepared to offer Wiggins a $180 million endorsement contract as soon as he’s draft eligible: “From what I’m hearing, (Adidas) is really high on him,” an industry source said. “I’ve heard a range for sure, from like $140 to $180 million for like 10 years. That’s a big deal for a kid coming out of school because most rookie deals are probably like four years.” “I’m hearing from people at Kansas that he’s got a $180 million offer supposedly coming from Adidas,” a source close to Wiggins’ inner circle said. “But I also heard that Nike is going to match anything.” Wiggins may indeed be worth the hype, given how talented the athletic 6’8″ wing player is at such a young age. Some scouting outlets have Wiggins rated as the best high school prospect since LeBron James, who landed a $93 million shoe deal with Nike out of high school 10 years ago. That type of praise would put Wiggins ahead of NBA greats Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and Derrick Rose at the same stage in their careers. In any case, it appears as if Wiggins will be financially set for the foreseeable future, as long as he can stay healthy and not succumb to the immense amount of pressure that he’s sure to endure over the next six months or so. -ALR
