Found March 24, 2013 on Diamond Hoggers:
Is Cano or Cespedes going to have the better year? Robinson Cano has been one of the best hitters in baseball over past several years.  His three year averages:  .311/.370/.539, 30 HR, 107 RBI, 104 runs, and 5 sB.  The 30/100/100 mark is a milestone and when someone averages that over three years in an increasingly pitching dominated era, it’s incredible.  He has finished 3rd, 6th, and 4th in the MVP race in the past three years.  It seems like any year now he is going to win it.  Well, it’s not likely to be this year.  Let me get this out there to start.  In no way is this prediction based on the fact that Cano will be meaningfully worse this year, but the Yankees lineup is not going to be great this year and two of these stats depend in part on his teammates – RBIs and runs.  In each case, Cano only contributes half of the contribution to the stat.  I don’t think Cano will go over 100 in RBIs or runs this year.  His average should maintain over .300 and the o/u on his HRs this yea...

Yankees Universe you need to read this about Wang

English: Wang in bullpen 2 (Photo credit: Wikipedia) It doesn’t take much to impress the New York Yankees these days, as Chien-Ming Wang just proved inking a one-year minor league deal with the team. It took Wang all of 12 scoreless innings in the WBC for the Yankees to abolish his past. Wang has been injured and ineffective for years, as his last decent outing in the majors was...

Yankees brass proud to welcome back champion Cano

Felix Lopez stood on the top step of the New York Yankees' dugout, chewing on an unlit cigar stub and flashing the smile of a proud father. Second baseman Robinson Cano was back on the field with the Yankees after leading the Dominican Republic to the championship of the World Baseball Classic and Lopez greeted him with a big hug near the batting cage. ''His success...

The horror, Mr. Cash, the horror: Jeter is no longer answering questions, Mariano is having migraines, Andy’s getting whacked, and the Yankee boat drifts ever deeper into the heart of darkness .

Derek Jeter is no longer answering reporters’ intrusive questions regarding his foot. (Generally, those questions must go along these lines: “How are you?” “How do you feel?” “What’s up?”) He’s tired of telling reporters his foot doesn’t hurt. The somebiches don’t listen. The Yankees say Jeter might miss opening day, but he hasn’t ruled it out. The team expects...

Has Brian Cashman lost his mind?

I haven't squawked much lately because I don't really want to be a Swanny one-note, writing nothing but gloom and doom about the state of the Yankees. Especially when it comes to the madness of Brian Cashman. He is a terrible general manager, but our lousy front office seems to be fine with no matter what he does. And the media gives Cashman a pass, too -- more than they...

Yankees injury news: Phil Hughes, Clay Rapada

The New York Yankees are dealing with multiple injuries as the regular season approaches – including Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira. Jeter to start 2013 on DL for Yankees?

A string of bad luck has struck the New York Yankees and now Derek Jeter may start 2013 on the disabled list. Worried, upset, concerned, just a few words that describe Yankees fans to start the season. While the progress of Yankee captain Derek Jeter, returning from a broken left ankle suffered in Game One of last October’s American League Championship Series, had been a mostly...

Yankees: What the Wang

Do you remember the last time you saw pitcher Chien-Ming Wang wear the New York Yankees pinstripes?  English: Wang in bullpen 2 (Photo credit: Wikipedia) It was on July 4, 2009 and Wang went five innings, gave up two runs, struck out three, walked three and hit a batter before being removed from the game. Andruw Jones Fighting for Custody of His Son

During his early years with the Atlanta Braves, Andruw Jones' path to immortality seemed to be paved with gold.  Since then...it's barely been pyrite. And I'm not even talking about his dismal stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Most recently, after spending time with four teams over five years...dude agreed to a one-year $3.5 million contract with the Japan...

A person familiar with the negotiations, speaking on condition of anonymity...
