The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be getting on track in time to make a serious run at the National League West title; something they hope Ricky Nolasco can help with. On Saturday, the Dodgers bolstered a pitching rotation that has been devastated by injuries this season by trading for right-hander Ricky Nolasco from the Miami Marlins, giving up three minor league players (Steve Ames, Josh Wall and Angel Sanchez) in return. The Dodgers also picked up the international signing bonus slot No. 96 valued at $197,000. “He’s an accomplished big league starter,” said general manager Ned Colletti. “We felt we needed to add starting pitching at this point. There’s a benefit to acquiring before we get to the end-of-the-month [Trade Deadline]. That’s part of the reason we did it.” The Dodgers started off the 2013 season with too many quality pitchers to start with:  Clayton Kershaw, Josh Beckett, Chad Billingsley, Zach Greinke, Chris Capuano, Aaron Harang, Ted Lilly and Hyun-jin Ryu. Too many quickly turned to too few as injuries began to pile up. Harang was traded to the Colorado Rockies in April. Beckett and Billingsley have both been lost for the season due to injuries. Lilly has spent much of the season on the DL and Capuano has also logged time on the DL as well. Nolasco, the career wins and strikeout leader for the Marlins, is just 5-8 this season in 18 starts for Miami with an ERA of 3.85. That was with arguably the worst team in baseball. While the Dodgers have not been playing great this season the team has won 11 of its last 13 and appear as if they may have turned a corner finally. “I’m definitely excited. It’s L.A., the team that I grew up going to the games as a kid and stuff,” said Nolasco. “It’s kind of surreal now, until I’m actually there. It will take time to sink in, but I’m definitely excited. My whole family couldn’t be happier. With rookies Hyun-Jin Ryu and Stephen Fife both pitching well, Chris Capuano will probably end up losing his spot in the rotation.
