Yankees manager Joe Girardi will be back with the team in 2013 regardless of what happens this season said GM, Brian Cashman, according to Ken Davidoff of the New York Post. Hal Steinbrenner, Yankees managing general partner, told the New York Post earlier this month that Girardi's job is safe even though the team blew a ten-game lead in the AL East and are now fighting the Rays, Orioles, A's and Angels for a postseason berth. Another Yankee that could be back in 2013 is left handed pitcher Andy Pettitte according to Matt Ehalt of ESPNNewYork.com. The veteran hurler came out of retirement thinking in 2012 only, but his ankle injury is making him consider a comeback for 2013. “I could probably say that when I came back I thought there was no chance that I was coming back, this is a one-year deal,” Pettitte said. “But getting hurt and only having 60 innings right now and you were hoping to have a couple hundred innings under your belt, it definitely gives me the option to consider coming back again next year, that's for sure.” Pettitte, 40, is 3-3 with a 3.22 ERA, 1.1 HR/9, 2.3 BB/9 and 9.1 SO/9 in 58.2 innings for the Yankees this season.
