I dare you to name somebody who has had a better week in free agency other than the Giants. A few days after making a solid addition to the rotation in Tim Hudson, the Giants made another stellar signing by re-upping with left-hand specialist Javier Lopez. From Alex Pavlovic:
The 36-year-old left-hander was the only one of the club’s marquee free agents to opt for free agency and drew interest from the likes of the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals, but on Thursday, Lopez and the Giants agreed to terms on a three-year, $13 million deal. The new contract is pending a physical, which will likely be taken next week.
He didn’t go to the Yankees! That alone should bring a smile on any Giants fan’s face, aside from the fact they’re retaining somebody who should prove to be a crucial part of the bullpen next season. Lopez had a 1.83 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 39.1 innings for the Giants last season.
