By Eric Stephen The Dodgers were long overdue for a win and Matt Kemp was long overdue for a home run, and the 12th inning at Dodger Stadium saw both on Wednesday afternoon. Kemp's walk-off home run gave the Dodgers a 5-3 win over the Phillies and snapped a four-game losing streak. "This was a nice win for our club," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "You never know if this is going to be the one that starts us rolling in the other direction." Kemp's two-run shot to right field off Jake Diekman (1-1) was Kemp's first homer since April 30, snapping a homer-less drought of 71 plate appearances. It helped erase some of the sting of the Dodgers losing 19 of their previous 25 games before Wednesday. "Don't give up on us, we're going to finish off strong," Kemp said. "No matter how much we struggle and what the situation is, we have to continue to try to get wins." The Phillies loaded the bases in the 10th inning off ...

Los Angeles Dodgers head east while going south

It’s a good thing the Los Angeles Lakers effort to obtain center Dwight Howard is dominating the headlines. The news is allowing the Dodgers to sneak out of town after a home stand in which they stunk up Los Angeles worse than the smog. Matt Kemp’s 12th inning “walk off” home run versus the Phillies Wednesday afternoon was one of the few highlights Dodgers fans witnessed...

Kemp's walk-off HR just what Dodgers needed

LOS ANGELES With one ferocious swing, Matt Kemp erased all of the frustration that had built up in him since his amazing start this season was curtailed by a damaged hamstring. At least it looked that way. "Well, I'm not sure about that," said a smiling Kemp, whose two-run, 419 foot blast into the right field stands off Jonathan Papelbon gave the Dodgers a 5-3, 12...

Dugout Digest - yeah, he's back

Since Matt Kemp returned to the Dodgers' lineup on Friday against the Padres, he's been pretty good....but, he hasn't been the Matt Kemp that dominated the National League in the month of April. Going into Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Kemp had just one extra base hit, a double, in four games since his return. On Wednesday, Kemp stepped up to the...

Dodgers' Kemp hits walk-off homer

Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning, giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Rookie left-hander Jake Diekman (2-0) walked Mark Ellis with one out and Kemp drove a 1-0 pitch the other way into the pavilion seats in right-center for his 13th home run and sixth career walkoff homer, capping the 4-hour, 25-minute marathon...

GIFcap: Mattycakes Is Back In Style

So Matt Kemp won the game for the Dodgers yesterday by both beating out an infield single to tie the game and hitting a walk-off two-run bomb. Quite frankly though, I’m not sure what I was happier about, the fact that the game was tied (above), the fact that the game was won (below), or

Kemp's HR in 12th helps Dodgers beat Phils

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning, giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Rookie left-hander Jake Diekman (2-0) walked Mark Ellis with one out and Kemp drove a 1-0 pitch the other way into the pavilion seats in right-center for his 13th home run and sixth career walkoff homer, capping the 4-hour...

What You Need to Know: Wednesday, July 18 by Daniel Rathman

The Tuesday Takeaway Remember when Matt Kemp was “the league’s best player, and the most valuable player to his team”—not to mention “the best show in the NL.” Over his first 100 at-bats of the season, Kemp produced 40 hits, including four doubles, a triple, and 12 home runs. The Dodgers were running away with the National League West, and Kemp was running away with...

Dodgers 5, Phillies 3 (12)

Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix, July 19, 2012: Matt Kemp Is Back, Trade Rumors Begin

Wednesday marked the official start of MLB's 2012 trade rumor season. Sure we've heard some rumbling throughout the first half and the Angels grabbed Ernesto Frieri back in May, but the true rumor mill can't begin until somebody links the Red Sox to Hanley Ramirez. USA Today's Bob Nightengale did the honors, reporting talks between the Marlins and Red Sox regarding...

Blue Crew Report

By SBRForum.com The LA Dodgers got back Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier for their second-half playoff run last week, and with their return LA was very popular among those handing out free MLB picks during its weekend series vs. San Diego. But even though Kemp and Ethier batted .500 on the weekend, LA managed to lose two of three games to the Padres, and gave up first...

Game Picks - Thursday: July 19, 2012

For a second straight day, the picks just barely climbed over the .500 level. And it took a couple of walk offs to do it. Matt Kemp has a flair for the dramatic and he saved that pick. But walk offs give and they take as well. The walk off in Oakland on the first major league homer by Brandon Hicks sunk that pick and Billy Butler's blast for the Royals sunk that pick. And...

Baserunners scarce against Kershaw

Lost in the euphoria of Matt Kemp's walk-off home run on Wednesday was that Clayton Kershaw pitched another excellent game for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kershaw allowed one run in eight innings, throwing a career-high 120 pitches. He struck out seven and walked none, his fourth start without a walk this year and his eighth with one or fewer free passes. "I felt good today...

Top 8 Current Candidates For NL MVP – Which Could Be a Race For the Ages

We all know that MVP races often come down to the final weeks of the season. Who performs well in crunch time usually plays a large role in the decisions of voters. Nonetheless, speculation is always fun. And with just two and a half months left in the regular season, the race certainly has been narrowed down. So like I did when I broke down the AL MVP race, I’ll rank ‘em in...

The downside of checking the score

Wednesday night I was having a marvelous taco dinner with my family of origin when one of my sisters threw a nasty slider low and away.  We're on a vacation in Florida and the Evil Blue Empire had tied the Phillies and the game was in extra innings.  My sister's significant other, a baseball fan and Phillies fanatic, finally came to dinner in frustration...
