Rumors and Rants:
The New York Yankees placed shortstop Derek Jeter on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a left ankle injury. Reports claim that the team plans to shut him down for the remainder of the 2013 season. The 39-year-old Yankee captain has been battling soreness in his surgically repaired ankle and his season will be over after appearing in just 17 games. In just 17 games, Jeter went...

Were...

He is Derek Jeter so of course he was going to make it back for Opening Day. And when he refractured his left ankle the recalibration was to early in the second half — ahead of schedule for sure — to help save the Yankees’ season.
Jeter wasn’t going to be stopped by quad and calf setbacks and even this latest ankle misery hardly diluted the belief that somehow some way he...
