San Francisco Giants
The Giants are in first place once again, and with a pitching rotation that sports such names as Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, and Madison Bumgarner, you’d think the main reason for their ranking atop the NL West would be due to some superlative pitching. Well, think again.
The Giants currently sport a 23-15 record and a hold a seat on top of their division, and the driving force behind their early success, contrary to many preseason predictions, has been an explosive offense. Led by Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval, the Giants currently rank third in the National League in runs scored, and are second in the league in batting average. The only two teams to score more runs, the Cincinnati Reds and the Colorado Rockies, both play in bandboxes. The Giants’ .732 team OPS is also third in the league. All of this firepower has come in spite of the team’s run-squelching home ballpark. As a matter of fact, their 108 OPS+ as a team is far and away the best in the National League. The next closest ...

At around age 10, Hunter Pence acquired a Barry Bonds poster from his elementary school fair. Ever since, he has choked up on his bat just as Bonds did in that prized picture.
Pence has become one of the San Francisco Giants' most reliable hitters with his unique style.
Not only does he have a team-leading seven home runs while batting .291 with nine doubles and a triple, he...
The long ball and Tim Lincecum powered the Giants past the Braves Sunday afternoon to give San Francisco it’s third win in a row, and the series win.
Lincecum followed masterful outings from Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner with a gem of his own. The two time Cy Young Award winner had his best game of the young season, allowing zero runs and just two hits while striking out seven...
The San Francisco Giants have optioned outfielder Francisco Peguero to their Triple-A Fresno minor league affiliate. This move was in accordance to making room for first baseman Brett Pill on the active roster whom they recalled from the same farm club. He is expected to add power off of the bench and possibly serve as the designated hitter in games against the Toronto Blue Jays...
Pablo Sandoval splashed a home run into McCovey Cove, Brandon Belt and Marco Scutaro also connected to back Tim Lincecum, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Atlanta Braves 5-1 on Sunday to wrap up a strong homestand.

It has been 273 days since the Giants have seen Melky Cabrera. He was caught, and that was that.
The Giants were surging and had just traded for the Phillies’ slugger Hunter Pence. Cabrera was leading the league in triples (10), was second in batting average (.346) and was on pace for around 230 hits last year before he was suspended for PED use.
A matchup of Cy Young Award winners will take a backseat to an unusual reunion for the San Francisco Giants.
Outfielder Melky Cabrera, suspended for drug use last season and now with the Toronto Blue Jays, faces his former team for the first time Tuesday night in Canada.
San Francisco's Barry Zito (3-1, 2.75 ERA) and Toronto's R.A. Dickey (2-5, 5.06) will start the opener...
The 2013 National League West simply will not stand still and cooperate. And it's annoying to the national sports media who are scrambling to do their best to write this season's pre-packaged NL West story-- i.e., which team will finish ahead of the San Francisco Giants.
Most pre-season predictions about the NL West are disappearing faster than executive careers at the...
