Chris Sale established a franchise record on Wednesday night and his teammates rewarded him accordingly. Sale struck out 12 batters the fourth time he has reached at least that total this season and the White Sox rallied for five late runs to beat the Houston Astros 6-1 at U.S. Cellular Field. Leury Garcia showed off his speed and Avisail Garcia displayed his brawn with his first home run in a four-run seventh inning as the White Sox won their fifth straight series. The White Sox have won 10 of their last 12 games and 16 of 23. Sale (10-12) pitched eight outstanding innings to win for the fourth time in five starts. He struck out the side in the first and fifth innings and had two each in the second and third. Though Sale’s strikeouts slowed down he moved past Ed Walsh and Javier Vazquez for the most starts of 12 or more strikeouts in franchise history with a seventh inning whiff of Brandon Barnes. The left-hander’s win wasn’t a sure thing however when Chris Carter launched a 1-1 fastball on the outer half of the plate 421 feet to left field for a game-tying home run in the top of the seventh inning. It was the only earned run Sale has allowed in 16 innings against the Astros this season. In two starts Sale has 26 strikeouts and has allowed nine hits. When he faced them in June Sale was a hard-luck loser as he struck out 14 but lost 2-1 after he allowed two unearned runs over eight innings. Sale allowed a run on four hits and walked two in nine innings on Wednesday.
