Coming off his first loss in eight fights, Shinya Aoki (pictured), appears to have a new opponent waiting for a summer tilt. According to bloodyelbow, Kazushi Sakuraba will be fighting one more time. The Aoki vs. Sakuraba tilt will take place as part of the yet to be named summer DREAM card in Japan.
Not only has the 42 year old Sakuraba dropped his last four fights (including one where he lost his ear, which was later successfully re-attached) , his body language just hasn't been that of a fighter who should be competing in mixed martial arts present day. He comes into the ring wrapped up like a mummy, with the first leg kick his opponent throws at him looking just as painful as the last.
As a fan of Sakuraba, and just a human who doesn't enjoy watching an aging fighter take a beating, I don't like the idea of Sakuraba continuing his career. What I do like to see is that the last (hopefully) fight of his career will be coming against a man who isn't considered a dangerous striker. Shinya Aoki would just as much like this fight to take place on the ground, and be the final man to submit one of the greatest submission artists, and overall all most beloved Japanese fighters of all time in Sakuraba.
Reports say this fight will be contested at Welterweight. If it indeed is Saku's last fight, then expect an insane intro video and entrance (as always), and heartfelt going away speech. This will surely be one of the more memorable summer mma moments of 2012.
