PLAYERS: Matt Kenseth
Matt Kenseth was in Canada when J.D. Gibbs sent him the results of Joe Gibbs Racing's appeal of NASCAR penalties against the team. The ruling was relayed via text messages that kept coming and coming and coming. It was good news for Kenseth, who came to Darlington Raceway on Friday a victor after a three-member appeals panel overturned almost all the penalties NASCAR levied against JGR after an illegal part was found in Kenseth's race-winning engine at Kansas. He'll have Wally Brown, a crew chief with Sprint Cup experience, atop the pit box Saturday night while Jason Ratcliff serves a one-race suspension. Ratcliff was originally suspended six races. Kenseth also got back 38 of the 50 points docked and goes into the race ranked fourth in the standings.

JGR penalties reduced, NASCAR not pleased

NASCAR’s appeals committee  has rescinded one of the largest penalties handed down in the history of the sport. Following the April 21 race at Kansas Speedway, Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and the No.20 team of Matt Kenseth were penalized 50 driver and owner points after one connecting rod in their Toyota engine failed to meet NASCAR’s minimum weight requirement. Kenseth snags coveted Darlington win

Joe Gibbs Racing celebrated in Victory Lane on Saturday night at Darlington Raceway - but it wasn't with the Toyota that dominated the NASCAR Sprint Cup Southern 500. After leading 265 laps, Kyle Busch cut a tire in the closing laps and was forced to nurse the No. 18 car to the end. That allowed Matt Kenseth to capitalize on his teammate's misfortune and take the race win...

Kenseth Relieved To Have Penalty Behind Him

You could say Matt Kenseth and his Joe Gibbs Racing team got an early Christmas gift when NASCAR reduced the penalties levied against him. They were given out after his victory in the STP 400 from the Kansas Speedway for an engine part that was too light. The part made no performance enhancement for Kenseth, and was given to the team by TRD engines that way. Kenseth, as you would...

This Week in NASCAR

While NASCAR got it so wrong with Matt Kenseth, it is reassuring to know that the Appeals process works.  This week the three member appeal board convened to hear the Joe Gibbs Racing team present their reasons why the penalties levied against them were unfair.  That three member board agreed with JGR and significantly reduced the penalties, but not the fine.  The $200,000 fine...

Kenseth charges late for Southern 500 victory

Many like to call Matt Kenseth NASCAR’s present-day David Pearson. Known for his stealth-like driving style, Pearson wasn’t always the one who led the most laps in the race, but he was always there at the finish when it mattered.
