INDIANAPOLIS- Since Elliott Sadler returned to the NASCAR Nationwide Series full-time in 2011, he’s been a favorite to win the championship each season. He’s been close at his first NASCAR championship, as he came home runner-up twice in 2011 and 2012. Last year though, he had a more disappointing season as he was winless and came home fourth in the final season standings.
Its been a lot better of a season so far in 2014 for Sadler. The Virginia native is currently third in the standings entering this weekend’s race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Sadler, has finished where he’s started in the first two races of the 2014 season as he started sixth and finished there in the season opener at Daytona on Feb. 22nd.
Last week at Phoenix, Sadler started fifth and came home fifth in the rain shortened race at the mile oval in the desert.
This week, he has high hopes to keep the good season going as Las Vegas has been kind to him despite not winning yet at the 1-mile oval. He has two top five finishes and a pole recently there.
With how well Joe Gibbs Racing did in 2013 on 1.5-mile tracks in both the Nationwide and Cup Series’, I’d expect Sadler to be among the favorite to win Saturday afternoon. He would certainly like to keep the finishing where he starts trend up by winning the pole for Saturday’s race as he did in 2012 and back that up with taking his No. 11 Toyota to victory lane at the end of the 200 Lap race.
