These days, it's hard to take what Danny says at face value and run with it. After all, he did assure us that Doc was definitely coming back just a couple of weeks ago and it's been nothing but speculation that he won't ever since. But, this time, I think he has a point. Rajon Rondo is a very smart kid (He does Algebra in his head, after all). And he saw how well the team played when the ball moved more and wasn't as dependent on one ball handler. From today's Herald, “I think Rondo is a smart guy, and he got to see the strengths and weaknesses of our team and the players,” said Ainge. “I think he actually started to see it even before he was out, but when you’re out, you can see things in your team and your teammates that maybe you didn’t see before. You see players that are capable of doing some things that maybe you weren’t sure they could do. I think that’s always helpful. Doc and I have both talked to Rajon about what he can do to get better and what he needs to do. “And Rondo’s a smart kid on his own. He doesn’t listen to everything you say, but he’s got his own ideas of what he can do to get better, as well. He’s very observant, very street-smart and very basketball-smart, too. “I always think he’s getting better.” Danny admits that he's said the same thing every year, and that Rondo has come back somewhat better every year. He has improved his jumper and has worked to be a better leader and less volatile. Danny also discussed Rondo's rehab that is going extremely well. “He was doing his rehab in Louisville, and then he went back down to Florida to work with Dr. (James) Andrews for a while,” said Ainge. “Rajon is looking good. We’ve mostly been texting lately. Look, this kid is motivated. I mean, he’s really motivated. Rajon’s a competitor. He wants to be back before Adrian Peterson was back. “That’s sort of how Rajon is. He doesn’t talk about that stuff all the time, but that’s how he’s thinking. He’s doing well.” That should come as a relief to Celtics' fans who worried that Rondo would have a replay of Derrick Rose's rehab in Chicago. If any player could come back in record time, it would be Kendrick Perkins. And next to him, my money's on Rajon Rondo. (I can't help it, I still love Perk). I expect him (Rondo, not Perk) back for training camp at close to 100%.  Hopefully Danny will finally bring in a suitable back up point guard also.  Of course, now that Danny's throwing out all the compliments Rondo's way, you have to wonder if he's getting ready to trade him. With Danny, you never know. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
