It's literally days until the Boston Celtics open their 2013-2014 season, and head coach Brad Stevens looks ready to go. The collective expectations of pundits, fans, and neutrals are low. Yet at the same time, no one really knows how the new-look C's will present themselves. Will they be looking to compete in every game, or will they make trades and increase their chances of a decent lottery number in the draft? Will Rajon Rondo return this season? Or next season? Or at all? And how much time exactly will Brad Stevens be given as the head coach to build a new winning team? If Stevens wants to build for the future then wins and losses will be irrelevant to him. The only thing that will matter is the growth of his roster. Going on a five-game losing streak won't concern him. Players not buying into his system will. Getting demolished by the Brooklyn Nets would barely make him flinch. Players in the rotation not fulfilling their responsibilities will. That may well be how ...

New Mechanics: Getting a handle on Stevens' pick and roll

Head coach Brad Stevens is bringing a much different style of play to the Boston Celtics this year and as one would expect, it is a work in progress from how he handles the media to the plays he draws up in both practice and during game time. Several players on the 2013-14 Celtics are experiencing growing pains with the style of pick-and-roll defense Stevens is aiming for. The...

Celtics Minute with Emily Austen for 10/25

The Celtics get a chance to dress up and show off their finery.   They all look very nice but  I vote Brad Stevens and his wife as the best dressed. I love that his green tie matches her dress. Nice touch. [Discuss on CG Forums!]

Impressions From Celtics’ 101-97 Win Over Nets

Kelly Olynyk is going to really like the stern talking-to he is going to get from Brad Stevens. Stevens the Celtics’ head coach had some unusual but accurate criticism for the rookie after Wednesday’s 101-97 preseason win over the Brooklyn Nets. The story behind Brad Stevens' departure for Celtics

Brandon Gaudin sat in the front seat of his car, which sat in the parking lot of a Michaels arts and crafts store, which sat in the sweltering heat of the Ft. Worth, Texas, summer. His air conditioning hummed while his emotions raced. An email had just flashed across his phone. "STEVENS HIRED BY CELTICS" read the subject line. In town visiting family, Gaudin, the radio...

Now Celtics' centerpiece, Rajon Rondo easing into relationship with new coach Brad Stevens

It’s particularly early here in the Celtics’ on-the-fly rebuild, but the status of the program can be summed up by the two guys who sat at the podium for postgame press conferences on Wednesday evening — 37-year-old coach Brad Stevens and rehabbing point guard Rajon Rondo . Stevens had just watched his team complete an eyesore of a preseason with a win over Brooklyn that brought...

The Best of Tommy - Nets Preseason 10/23

I love Tommy Heinsohn.  I  love listening to him in games and I love reading his tweets.  I know that fans from our opponents would rather eat glass than have to listen to Tommy and that makes me love him even more.  Here are the best of Tommy's tweets from last night. Comments from the Other Side - Nets Preseason 10/23

Well, this was a nice way to end the preseason.  Lots of positives to go around in spite of the Nets playing very shorthanded.  It wasn't so long ago that the Celtics and Nets  were in opposite places, how quickly things can change in the league.  Hopefully in another year or two, they will once again swap places.  I've highlighted my favorite comments in bold.  Now...

Wrap Up: Celtics Close Preseason with a Win

The Celtics finished their preseason with on a high note with a 101-97 win over the Brooklyn Nets at the Garden. Of course, we should temper our excitement with the fact that the Nets' top 6 players weren't playing in this one. But, there were some good things to take from the game in spite of the opposition. The Celtics played as a team and showed a couple of nice...

Inside Celtics open practice

Each year the Boston Celtics invite their season ticket holders in to the Garden to catch the team practicing on their home floor. I attended practice last night with hopes of letting you in to the on court experience like I was able to for the first preseason game. Coach Brad Stevens geared the event more towards the fans than an actually practice, much more conservative on what...
