Nobody outside of Detroit expected the Pistons, who were a measly 1-9 before Sunday's game, to defeat the Celtics. Well, they did...by 20 points. It was a little more than twenty-four hours after the C's had beaten the Toronto Raptors (after a late push by Boston) that the Pistons and Celtics tipped off in the Motor City. Boston came in winning three of its last four games, while Detroit had came out victorious in only one of their first ten games. Not only that, but they had blown double-digit leads in each of the four home games they had played. Seems like a no-brainer, right? While the  Celtics were hanging around for much of the first half, and some of the third quarter, it was apparent that they were dead from the beginning. Their energy level was disappointing, which we've almost come to expect when the C's play bad teams. They time and time again play down to their opponents. On the second night of a back-to-back, its tough to get pumped about playing an average at best team. However, that's unacceptable from a title contender. "We can't use the schedule as an excuse - this is the NBA and you have to play stretches like this," Celtics center Kevin Garnett said after his team finished their fourth game in five nights. "But when you see as many shots hit the front of the rim as we had tonight, you know that you don't have your legs." Garnett is right, but Boston must find a way to fight through these back-to-backs, something they haven't done yet. On the positive side, point guard Rajon Rondo extended his double-digit assist streak to 34 games, finishing with 10 assists. It is the third longest in NBA history. "Why not?" Doc Rivers commented on the fact that he let Rondo play just to extend the streak. "The press keeps talking about it, so I figured I would give him a shot at it." Rondo can thank rookie Jared Sullinger, who hit a jumper with 51 seconds to go in the game, giving Rondo his tenth assist. The Celtics' schedule doesn't get any easier coming up. They play the Spurs on Wednesday night and the Thunder on Friday night, two games Boston would love to steal. But the Celtics must push through this tough stretch and continue to improve as a team, as they are currently fourth place in the Atlantic Division. Something tells me they'll get it together sooner or later. Celtics fans, stay calm.

Should Rondo have been playing during garbage time to extend the streak?

Rondo picked up his 10th assist with 51 seconds left. Should he have been playing? The only exciting part about the Celtics meltdown in Motown earlier tonight, was whether or not Rajon Rondo would reach 10 assists for the 34th consecutive regular season game. Rondo had just seven assists to his credit with under five minutes to go before picking up the final three as the Celtics...

Rajon Rondo: Stat Padder?

After Rajon Rondo stayed on the floor in the final minutes of a blowout loss to the Detroit Pistons, many fans around the league have accused him of stat-padding. This is not the first time we've seen Rondo manufacture stats, such as passing up easy 2 on 0 layups or trying to score in the very last second when a game is over. I understand the criticism, but at the same time...

Rajon Rondo’s Assist Streak Keeps Going and Going and…

Rajon Rondo does things on the court many dream of. He will never win a 3-point contest or run a kids basketball camp on how to shoot correctly, but the man is fun to watch. His recent achievements are historic. Rondo has his eye on breaking Magic Johnson’s NBA record for consecutive regular-season games with double-digit assists. Johnson respectively had 46 games in row followed...

Rajon Rondo’s Double-Digit Assists Streak Matters to Him, So Celtics Are Smart to Make It Matter to Them As Well

Asked over and over about what his streak of consecutive games with double-digit assists meant to him, Rajon Rondo came back with the same answer every time. “It means my teammates are making shots,” he said repeatedly after the Celtics’ win over the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, when he extended his streak to 33 games. And that was that, pretty much. Rondo’s streak reached...

Did Rajon Rondo Really Have 20 Assists On Saturday?

Before I get into this, allow me to clarify that this post is not being made to criticize Rajon Rondo.  My intent is to question the suspect manner in which NBA scorekeepers count assists.  In the following video, which has been provided by the NBA’s official Youtube channel, you will see each and every one of the 20 assists Rondo was credited for in Saturday afternoon’s matinee...
